I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity.
Edgar Allen Poe

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.
- H. L. Mencken

Many people would sooner die than think; In fact, they do so
-Bertrand Russell

What I have been telling you, from alpha to omega, what is the one great thing the sigil taught me — that everything in life is miraculous. For the sigil taught me that it rests within the power of each of us to awaken at will from a dragging nightmare of life made up of unimportant tasks and tedious useless little habits, to see life as it really is, and to rejoice in its exquisite wonderfulness. If the sigil were proved to be the top of a tomato-can, it would not alter that big fact, nor my fixed faith. No Harrowby, the common names we call things by do not matter — except to show how very dull we are ...

Day of rest

Today was a really boring day. I didnt do much of anything. I did get to talk to Leah and Stacey on the phone. I help Stacey do programming. I love making flowcharts. Thats the stuff that comes naturally to me. I tend to see the broad structures of things and get bogged down when it comes to the details.

I cant believe Im leaving to see Carey this week. Im so excited. I have a busy week till then. I have to tutor on Monday and Tuesday and Im seeing Leah on Wednesday. There are also concerts I want to go to on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. I doubt Ill make it home in time for Wednesdays. Annie Golden is playing at CBGBs then. On Tuesday, Sam Shabaaaaaar and Girlyman are playing.

I might play bridge again tomorrow. Im trying to get in touch with Marco but he hasnt been around all day. I heard his team needs a fourth. My success on Friday is making want to play more. I have 282 masterpoints now, I need 300 to make life master. I really should do that this year. Of course that and $2.00 will get you a ride on the subway.

My modem program crashed again. I hate this computer. On the bright side it crashed while I was talking to Marco so I called him on the phone. I am playing tomorrow with him. Thats a good team, we have a chance to do well. Marco says its his mission to see that I make life master this year.

I was talking to Stacey today about her mother doesnt understand what I get out of being her friend. I could come up with reasons but I think they are really rationalizations. I like people because they make me feel good. I dont really need to know why and Im not sure if Im capable of seeing that clearly. Its the kind of thing where it is so easy to fool yourself.

I had to dial in three times to get connected now. Anyone want to buy me a new computer? I think I need new phone lines too. This is taking forever. It now says I have the wrong password. It was the right password 20 minutes ago. Things are really screwed up. I want to get online and update already. I know my fans are waiting breathlessly. This is interesting, it had me change the number I call to dial in. I wonder if there is something wrong with the number I was dialing into. After nothing worked I called tech support. The recorded message said there were no network problems. When after half an hour I talked to someone he knew what was wrong. There were network problems. He game me another number to dial into, not the one I got when it tried to reconfigure. If the recorded message had just said that I could have saved half an hour.

Todays quote is by Abraham Lincoln.

While the people retain their virtue and vigilance no administration, by any extreme of wickedness or folly, can very seriously injure the government in the short space of four years
