I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity.
Edgar Allen Poe

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.
- H. L. Mencken

Many people would sooner die than think; In fact, they do so
-Bertrand Russell

What I have been telling you, from alpha to omega, what is the one great thing the sigil taught me — that everything in life is miraculous. For the sigil taught me that it rests within the power of each of us to awaken at will from a dragging nightmare of life made up of unimportant tasks and tedious useless little habits, to see life as it really is, and to rejoice in its exquisite wonderfulness. If the sigil were proved to be the top of a tomato-can, it would not alter that big fact, nor my fixed faith. No Harrowby, the common names we call things by do not matter — except to show how very dull we are ...

Bread and Chocolate without the bread.

I'm back home now with recharged batteries. After I updated yesterday Carey made a delicious breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes. When she read my entry she pointed out that I forgot one of the highlights of the concert Saturday night. At one point I said they should have bubbles. Next thing we know we were in a shower of bubbles. It was just like being in Robot Monster. Too bad Ro-Man couldn't be there, he loves his bubbles.

After breakfast we were off to buy army men and various sundry. Once again we forgot to bring a camera to Ollie's so we could take a pic of the Ollie Wants You recruiting poster. Then I finally got to go to the Friendly's. I love Friendly's but had never eaten at the one near Carey. So I had a hot fudge sundae to go with my chocolate chip pancakes. I had a very fattening weekend. If I lived with Carey I'd weigh 600 lbs. She'd still be thin, damn metabolism.

After that I started my drive home. I wanted to leave around 3 but it was closer to 4. I wanted to be able to see my father in the hospital that night.

I don't know why, maybe it's because I never sleep when I'm there, but I'm always tired when I drive home. I need caffeine, which I avoid the rest of the time. I needed to make two coffee stops on the ride home.

The trip was pretty clear sailing except for that and I got to the hospital at 8, which was early enough that I could spend an hour there. My father seemed stronger than he had the day before. Today he looked even better. He was able to eat a bit this morning and that helped.

Today I taught, got my flu shot, visited my father, and then went to the Knick game. In other words I was on the go from 8:15 AM till 10:30 PM. I'm a bit tired now as a result. I think I'm going to have to forgo telling the secrets of the universe I discovered today. Well I'll tell one. It's fun to drive down to visit Carey and see Neurobands on the weekend.
