I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity.
Edgar Allen Poe

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.
- H. L. Mencken

Many people would sooner die than think; In fact, they do so
-Bertrand Russell

What I have been telling you, from alpha to omega, what is the one great thing the sigil taught me — that everything in life is miraculous. For the sigil taught me that it rests within the power of each of us to awaken at will from a dragging nightmare of life made up of unimportant tasks and tedious useless little habits, to see life as it really is, and to rejoice in its exquisite wonderfulness. If the sigil were proved to be the top of a tomato-can, it would not alter that big fact, nor my fixed faith. No Harrowby, the common names we call things by do not matter — except to show how very dull we are ...

oO Robot Parade Oo

(edited by Carey because Gordon is a batnose)

I haven't had much inspiration recently. I have one entry I've been meaning to write maybe this is the day to do it. Let's see how telling about my day goes.

Today was theoretically the last day of classes. I'm using my snow days to meet the rest of the week. We are just going to go over old finals the next few days. My second class was very good today. They have finally learned the things I was complaining that they hadn't memorized. I hope they do great on the take-home test.

My father had an operation today. They put in lines for his dialysis. The lines they had been using were in his neck, not a good permanent arrangement. The new ones are in his shoulder. The doctor said everything went well. Today was the first day that I haven't seen him. He wasn't in shape after the surgery for a visit.

I didn't do much else today. I did talk to Leah's friend Luke online. I heartily approve of him. He said that Leah was wonderfully strange, a very apt description of her.

Later in the evening I talked to Leah on the phone. She had good timing too. She didn't call during Angel, one of the shows that I try to never miss.

Have you ever noticed that there are some people that act like Robots? Robots seem human at first. Then you find that they can only relate to people in certain preprogrammed ways. Here are two typical exchanges with a robot.

Human: Did you hear the new album by the Dustzappas?

Robot: Killer Motes is their best album since Marzipan.

Human: You really think so?

Robot: Yes I read how they worked with llamas for 5 years to perfect their harmonies.

Now that seems fine. If you were a fan of the Dustzappas you'd be impressed at his or her knowledge. But now you meet them another day and have this conversation.

Human: My dog just died.

Robot: Killer Motes is the best Dustzappas album since Marzipan

Human. I had her for 12 years. I am really going to miss her.

Robot: I read how they worked with llamas for 5 years to perfect their harmonies.

You know you know people like that. I have to admit I occasionally robot. Not that extreme though.
