Today I went to a bridge tournament. I've been playing bridge for years but not as much in the last year. Now playing in tournaments does not mean I'm good. It just means I'm willing to plunk down $26 to play bridge all day.I played from 1:30 PM till about 11:30 today with a couple hours off for dinner. I played with my friend Roy. He is my regular bridge partner, though I play with lots of other people. We did not do that well. I still had fun though. During the dinner break we ate at this cool Brazillian Restaurant. It was pricier than I usually go to but it was fun for a change. After dinner we went to see the Christmas Tree at Rock Center. I had done that all ready this year but it was nice to see it with someone else. I always do that alone. For desert we went to Ferrara's they are the best italian bakery. Yummm.
I used to play bridge every week, now its more like once every couple of months. I miss bridge but I like the things I'm doing instead too.
One strange thing playing bridge is that I'm so young for the crowd. The median age for the American Contract Bridge league is about 60. I have a group of friends who are about 12 years younger than me but most people are older. I am often the youngest person in the room when I play at a club. This is the reverse of going to concerts where I'm so often one of the oldest. I'd love to sell younger people on bridge. Its a great game for College students. Of course its nerdy but hey, nerds are in now. Todays nerd is tomorrows Dotcom millionaire.
