I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity.
Edgar Allen Poe

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.
- H. L. Mencken

Many people would sooner die than think; In fact, they do so
-Bertrand Russell

What I have been telling you, from alpha to omega, what is the one great thing the sigil taught me — that everything in life is miraculous. For the sigil taught me that it rests within the power of each of us to awaken at will from a dragging nightmare of life made up of unimportant tasks and tedious useless little habits, to see life as it really is, and to rejoice in its exquisite wonderfulness. If the sigil were proved to be the top of a tomato-can, it would not alter that big fact, nor my fixed faith. No Harrowby, the common names we call things by do not matter — except to show how very dull we are ...

Good Mountain

I had a pretty good day recruiting yesterday. It helped that it was such a beautiful day. There were lots of people in the park and they were in good moods. My mood was pretty good too. I took a shorter break than usual and didn't go online when I did. I decided to check out an exhibit at the library instead. They had one on early printing. I couldn't read any of the books of course, they were written in Latin and Italian mostly, but they were beautiful. I especially loved the first Florentine edition of the Divine Comedy. The centerpiece of the collection is two Guttenberg bibles. Even if you have no interest in the history of books you have probably heard of the Guttenberg bibles. They were the first large books printed with movable type. Once again I was struck by how wonderful the Main Branch of the New York Public Library is. You can just walk in and see some of the greatest works of art in history with no admission price, not even a suggested donation. You don't have wait on lines or even fight crowds. You just walk in and there they are in a room on the first floor.

When I got home last night I was kept busy. I had to barbeque dinner, do laundry, watch Buffy, call Carey , and make up a test for one of my calculus classes. I even managed to put a DVN question in it.

I did not get enough sleep last night. A wrong number woke me up this morning. I have a long day too. I have an afternoon class, and evening class then I'm going to see The Professor and Maryann at the Living Room with Lisa. Maybe I'll be able to take a nap between classes. I really should be marking tests then though. I also want to squeeze some phone calls in there.

I think I'm too tired to write anything deeper today. I better call it quits.
