I should update today. I won�t be able to this weekend though Carey is going to write me a guest entry on Sunday. I�m going to return the favor and write a guest entry for her when she�s busy moving. I�ll save my best material for that.
I�ve been promising to take Carey to a wedding for as long as we�ve been friends and this Saturday is the first one that I�ve been invited to since we met. My cousin Elena is getting married. I�ve written about her before. She is my first cousin Ayn�s daughter. That makes her my first cousin once removed. If you ever want to know how you and someone in your family are related ask me, I know the nomenclature. The basic rules for cousins are simple. If you share grandparents then you are first cousins. If you share great grandparents then you are second cousins and so on. The children of your first cousins are your first cousins once removed. Their children are your first cousins twice removed. In other words the degree of the cousins tells you how far you have to go to get a common ancestor and the removes tell you how many generations you are apart. Is that clear to everyone? Yes this will be on the test.
Stephanie finally brought me the chocolate covered graham crackers that she promised me. I love having students that give me presents. Even better is having students that want to learn. The finite math class is great.
I just finished marking the take-home test of one of my calculus classes. The average grade was about 75 and a third of the students didn�t do it. That is so sad. I care more about how they do in school than they do. Some of them really need to take time off from school and find out how the real world operates.
My sisters, brother-in-law helped me pick out my outfit for the wedding. I have it all packed and I even shined my shoes. I�m going to have to get pics of Carey and me looking spiffy.
I�m in a bit of a writing slump. I haven�t been able to remember so much of what I wanted to write about. Tom Lehrer said he hated plays and movies where characters goes on and on about how they can�t communicate. �If they can�t communicate the least they can do is shut up.� I�ll follow that advice.
