I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity.
Edgar Allen Poe

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.
- H. L. Mencken

Many people would sooner die than think; In fact, they do so
-Bertrand Russell

What I have been telling you, from alpha to omega, what is the one great thing the sigil taught me — that everything in life is miraculous. For the sigil taught me that it rests within the power of each of us to awaken at will from a dragging nightmare of life made up of unimportant tasks and tedious useless little habits, to see life as it really is, and to rejoice in its exquisite wonderfulness. If the sigil were proved to be the top of a tomato-can, it would not alter that big fact, nor my fixed faith. No Harrowby, the common names we call things by do not matter — except to show how very dull we are ...

Dunn Dunn Dunn Dunn (think Dragnet)

Wow I'm starting late. now I have to rush. Well at least I have an excuse if this isn't brilliant. Of course I always have the excuse that I'm an idiot.

Yesterday was a long day. First I had to escort Heather to a doctor's appointment in Forest Hills, not far from where I used to live. But it's a long trip from Williamsburg. And I had to get to her house first. So I left here at 7:40 AM, grabbed breakfast at Dunkin Donuts, then took the bus to her house. Then we took the to the to the . We could have skipped the but this was faster. Then the train did not stop at 75th street. There was no announcement made. Good thing it wasn't a long walk from Union Turnpike. I got all nostalgic to be back in my old stomping grounds.

After the doctor we went to lunch on Austin Street. we went to a gastropub. Nothing special but I got treated! This is becoming a habit. I was disappointed, the waitress wasn't a sexist and left the check between us. If she gave it to me I was going to say, "excuse me if someone wants to have lunch with eye candy like me she has to treat." I will save that for another time.

We then headed back to Heather's. I got to watch TV! I saw Jeopardy! I would have kicked the contestant's asses. I was the only one to get Final Jeopardy right.

Frederick Douglas was referring to him when he said, "His zeal in the cause of my race was far greater than mine."
I'll give the answer later.

Then I did some much needed shopping at Trader Joe's. I made a pit stop at home and headed out again to have dinner with the luminous Laura Dunn and friends. Laura used to live here but she and her fianc, now husband Craig, moved back to Portland. She came back for an interview and a show at the Postrcypt Coffeehouse. We met for dinner before the show at this greek restaurant that I always have to call Chris to get the name of. I want to call it Academe but it's Symposium. they both have Plato connections. My mind works in mysterious ways. It also always moves from west of Broadway to east. Yes places do that, it isn't my memory that's wrong. Ray's pizza used to wander up and down sixth avenue and sometimes go to Broadway. Stop looking at me like that. These things happen.

You ready for a miracle? I remember everyone's name. Laura and Craig I know well so they don't count. But the three people I met are Maggie, Betsy, and Liam. Yes I even remember the name of the one that isn't a cute girl! Will wonders never cease?

I lured Laura with a promise of flaming cheese. Betsy even knew what it was called. Why didn't I get a picture? Why don't I remember what it's called? Oh right, I'm an idiot. next time I have to remember to get once order for each three people. We each had just a taste. But it was amazing. I of course ordered souvlaki. The restaurant gets a big recommendation from me. I tried Greek Coffee. it's just like Turkish coffee, Muddy sediment in a small cup. Why can't those country's get along? They share taste in coffee. Oh and it's a lot better than it sounds. If Turkish coffee is an option I always get it.

Laura and Maggie had to leave early as they were performing. The rest of us arrived just after Maggie started. I could hear that she's a friend of Laura's immediately. I didn't have to have dinner with the two of them. She sounds like someone that share's Laura's sensibilities. I it neuromusic? Perhaps. They and Kendy too create their own aesthetic. They don't all have the same one, what they share is not sharing the common sense of what music is supposed to sound like and know than uncommon can be a very good thing.

One moment was pure neuromusic. Maggie was playing and Christian from Laura's band, Ghosts of Xmas Past walked in during a song, sat on the edge of the stage and started playing his toy piano with her. Then Kirk started playing bass in the hallway. Toy piano puts it over the neuromusic line.

As you can see we were sitting off to the side, not a great place for pictures. I got one decent one of Kendy.

Oh hell. That isn't decent. I was going to say take my word that he's super cute but don't, go see her for yourself;. Oh I didn't link to her website. I'll do that now. Kendy Gable. I've known Kendy for some time but it just him me last night that she has the perfect name for a madcap heiress from a 1930s screwball comedy. Katharine Hepburn could play her.

I sat with Betsy. Our seats didnt' work out well when Laura came on, we were right behind Kirk and his bass. This is the view we had.

We moved over to the floor at the front of the stage. We are not ones to stand on ceremony, we rather sit on the floor.

Maggie, Laura, and Christian

Kendy joined her too but it was too dark where she was sitting to get a picture. What was my brilliant insight into Laura's music? It's went back to the ether. I forgot it. Kendy's. Nope forgot that too. But I've written about them before.

The total experience was great. You know the best thing I can say about Laura. It's how much I like her friends. If Laura wasn't there I'd have had fun with everyone else. And I love the music of Kendy and Maggie. Sorry I forgot Maggie's last name so I can't link to her website.

Now I have to run. I want to write more but I don't have time. I don't even have time to eat. I'll have to buy breakfast again,. I hate that.
