I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity.
Edgar Allen Poe

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.
- H. L. Mencken

Many people would sooner die than think; In fact, they do so
-Bertrand Russell

What I have been telling you, from alpha to omega, what is the one great thing the sigil taught me — that everything in life is miraculous. For the sigil taught me that it rests within the power of each of us to awaken at will from a dragging nightmare of life made up of unimportant tasks and tedious useless little habits, to see life as it really is, and to rejoice in its exquisite wonderfulness. If the sigil were proved to be the top of a tomato-can, it would not alter that big fact, nor my fixed faith. Impression Sunrise

Did you notice that I didn't update yesterday? I'm not going to write much today either. I don't feel comfortable writing about my inner world right now and it's taking up too much of my mind to write of the outer world. Whenever I try I end up writing about how people dismiss facts that contradict their opinions.

I was talking to Brianne about this. She suggested that I write a poem. I have done that before. I was about to say that I have the same problem with poems as with prose but I just looked out my window and realized I could write a haiku. They traditionally are about appreciating nature. So I'm going to give it a try as I think about this just about every day.

Sunrise in the east.
Potter's Field made beautiful.
Rebirth over death.
The view out my window is of Long Island Sound and is dominated by Hart Island, New York City's Potter's Field. I'm greeted by that every morning and often take pictures of it. People get jealous of my view. They don't know what that island is but I do and that doesn’t affect the beauty.

I'm going to leave it there and make breakfast.
