With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
April 18, 2004 - 10:45 p.m. A long day today. I volunteered at WFUV from 8 till 11. I had to pick up Nora first so I had to leave here around 7. I planned on getting up at 6:40 but I woke up around 4 and couldn’t get back to sleep. I watched Doctor Who and tried to fall asleep for a while before giving up. I ended up with about three hours sleep, about the same as the night before. Considering that I’ll be getting up at 5AM all this week that is worrisome. FUV was a lot of fun, I got to see lots of friends but the fund drive went very poorly. Not nearly enough people called in, they did not meet their goal by a long shot. I never had to answer a phone, that’s not a good sign. I always run to a phone when all the others are busy, that never happened. I did get to talk to Nora, Gary, Craig, Gene, and Dave. I hope I’m not forgetting anyone. I probably am. I just impressed myself remembering all their names though. John played Albany by WA9, that made Gene and I happy. He had it planned before I mentioned them to him. This afternoon was the Slaid Cleaves Cabin Concert. The show started at 3. I left my house around 1:45, a bit later than I wanted to but enough time to make it under normal conditions. I didn’t have normal conditions, I hit horrible traffic in the Bronx. I ended up getting there at 3:40 and missing half the show. Slaid did commiserate with me and told everyone the story of my losing my briefcase. There was a cancellation so I got to stay for the second show. It was a financial hit but after spending all that time getting there I wanted a full set. I new several people at the late show. Jill, another FUV volunteer was there with her family. I had met her husband and sister. In the first set I requested Slaid’s version of Rod Picott’s Tiger Tom Dixon’s Blues. Unfortunately he had already played it. He made sure to play it for me the second set. Some people on the Rod Yahoo Group made very negative comments about Slaid’s version. I think that is ridiculous. It is different, a cover version is supposed to be different or what’s the point? As you might expect Slaid’s version is more lyrical, Rod’s grittier. They are both great. Slaid is playing gigs in Chicago and London. I know I have readers in those cities. You really should go. Especially as he mentioned my reader in Chicago and pointed out that she lives there. I could write more but if I did I’d have no chance for a good night’s sleep so I’ll just leave it here. We’ll have to see how updating goes during the week. I’m going to be very busy.
