I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity.
Edgar Allen Poe

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.
- H. L. Mencken

Many people would sooner die than think; In fact, they do so
-Bertrand Russell

What I have been telling you, from alpha to omega, what is the one great thing the sigil taught me — that everything in life is miraculous. For the sigil taught me that it rests within the power of each of us to awaken at will from a dragging nightmare of life made up of unimportant tasks and tedious useless little habits, to see life as it really is, and to rejoice in its exquisite wonderfulness. If the sigil were proved to be the top of a tomato-can, it would not alter that big fact, nor my fixed faith. No Harrowby, the common names we call things by do not matter — except to show how very dull we are ...

Glory that was Greece, the Grandeur that is Sam

I'm too tired for the deep thinking entries I've been planning so I'll just write a short one on what's been going on. The WfUV winter pledge drive stared today. I have to be there at 6 AM that meant getting up at 4 AM. That was not easy I couldn't fall asleep till after midnight. I woke up a few times during the night. So I was tired. Worse than that I havce new eye problems. I had a discharge in my eyes. It is still happening When I woke up I could hardly see. I used my eye wash and that helped but it kept coming back. Now my eyelids hurt too, I hope that is better in the morning.

The day at the station was fun as usual. Unfortunately neither Jim nor Lori not LORi could come in. We were shorthanded all day and there were lots of new people I had to train. There were also lots of brand new students. it made things interesting. The phones were busy and there were some large pledges so we dig great with the money. I only had to take one call and that was when a phone was left on. by mistake and I had to grab it.

The only old friends around all day were Steven or is that Stephen, Angelo, and Connie. Sam wasn't around most of the day and Cathy arrived just as I was leaving it was not my usual FUV day but as always I had fun,. I met new people and made new friends.

And of course there was Sam who got there in the afternoon. I told her she'd like what I was going to write about her. Now what was it? It wasn't that she loves me more than she loves Lori. That's just a given. It isn't that she thinks I get my slave driver power from her and I let her think it. Oh right. it's that she is the reason that I go to the drives. It isn't even the food. She is the source of all that is good and is holy.

Can you believe that someone said that I was a brown noser?

Oh right, I did have another friend there, Cheryl. The thing is that she isn't an FUV friend. I tend to assume that if I know a music fan it's from the station. But I met her at shows. This was her first drive.

I am almost finished with Commodore Hornblower. I think I have eight pages to go. I should finish that before I go to bed so I can start a new book tomorrow. I love the Hornblower books.

When I got back to the Last Homely House West of the Mountains I found that the pipes burst this morning and there is no water. Once again I'm in a house where I can't flush a toilet. What is it with me? The plumber was here. I should check if that's been fixed before I go to sleep.

It was 11˚ when I left the house this morning. I didn't hold much back in keeping warm. I had on my silk long underwear, A wood sweater. My winter coat. A scarf, gloves, and my warmest Nepalese hat. I only wear a scarf if I cam going to wrap it around my face. I had no exposed skin. I wasn't in the slightest bit cold. The scarf over my nose means I don't breath cold air and that makes a huge difference. Some people might think I looked silly. I think anyone who doesn't dress like that looks silly. They were cold and suffered because they are afraid of what people will think. That's silly. I was nice and comfy. That's smart. Unfortunately the pig tail with the tassel on one side of the hat got caught in my backpack when I took it off and broke off the hat. It has to be resewn. I can't do that I'll have to take it to a tailor. I can't imagine it being difficult for a pro to fix.

I got a call today that my progressive lens glasses are ready. I hope I can pick them up tomorrow. I kept taking my glasses off to do close work today and then losing them. I need glasses I an keep on.

I'm going to go to bed early today and get up early tomorrow as I have to get up at 4 AM again on Friday. This way I'll stay on that schedule. I don't intend on going out to do anything other than volunteer and teach till Saturday. Then maybe I'll get to see a movie. Now I'm going to clean my eyes again, finish Hornblower, and go to bed. Maybe grab something to eat in there too.
