I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity.
Edgar Allen Poe

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.
- H. L. Mencken

Many people would sooner die than think; In fact, they do so
-Bertrand Russell

What I have been telling you, from alpha to omega, what is the one great thing the sigil taught me — that everything in life is miraculous. For the sigil taught me that it rests within the power of each of us to awaken at will from a dragging nightmare of life made up of unimportant tasks and tedious useless little habits, to see life as it really is, and to rejoice in its exquisite wonderfulness. If the sigil were proved to be the top of a tomato-can, it would not alter that big fact, nor my fixed faith. No Harrowby, the common names we call things by do not matter — except to show how very dull we are ...

Scary Anniversaries Ahead

I have to go to bed soon so I'm going to write a very short and scary edition of Wise Madness. Every day I post on Facebook my blogs from 5, 10, and 15 years ago. I'm approaching the anniversaries of terrible days 5 and 15 in the past; two of the worst days of my life. Fifteen years ago, my father died. Five years ago, I was evicted and my life unraveled. I have still not recovered from that. Nobody forces me to read those entries but I will. Good thing I have therapy on Wednesday.

It's also a good thing that I'm volunteering at WFUV this week. That's good for my mental health. All my favorite shows are on Sunday so I get there at 7 AM and stay till 8 PM, a 13-hour shift. It's wearing but worth it. I was joined by Brian, Fred, and Gary for the last shift, when Bob Sherman and John Platt were on the air. I take Bob's pledge every year. I brought CDs for John. He played Jean Rohe's Arise! Arise!: National Anthem. he is aware how much the song means to me. Fred drove me home. I met some other lovely people, volunteers and students. They served the very best dinner the station ever serves, amazing steak and roasted potatoes. They were both made perfectly.

Fred drove me home, that saves me so much time and I had great company. This was a good day. I need all of those I can get.

I signed the Pro-Truth Pledge:
please hold me accountable.
