With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
June 01, 2009 - 12:00 p.m. I went the first four months of 2009 without seeing Red Molly. That might not sound like that was so long without seeing a band, especially as it is not technically true as I saw them in New Year's Eve and they did one song after midnight but the reality is that's the longest I've gone without seeing them since the first time. I'm now making up for lost time. I saw them three weeks ago at the Living Room and last night Chris and I drove up to Piermont to see them do two shows at The Turning Point. Chris picked me up, it's always nice when I don't have to drive. When I got to his car I realized I wasn't wearing my glasses. I didn't want to go back up to my apartment so I just went to my car where I keep my emergency pair. They aren't progressive and I can't read with them but they are fine for watching a concert. That's foreshadowing in case you missed it. We got up there a bit after doors open and the girls were no where to be seen but the merch cases were so we set up the "Red Molly Traveling Bookstore and Boutique." Gene and Isabel got there right after we did and we joined them at their table. We knew we couldn't stay there because the show was a sellout and as non-paying customers we are supposed to stay in the back in the merch area. We figured we'd stay till the place got crowded. We ended up staying through the first few songs when I noticed Jeff and Karen standing near us. We got up and gave them our seats and went to the back of the room. I sat on a stool and Chris set up his monopod, stood and took photos. When we were counting out the merch I had to take my glasses off as I can't see close with them on. I put them on top of my head. That didn't work out well. They fell off. When I went to put them back on I saw that the right lens had fallen out. I couldn't just pop it back in the screw that holds it tight had fallen out and I couldn't find it. I went the rest of the evening without glasses. I am not sure if anyone there had ever seen me without them. Carolann commented that she never had. I am one of those people that look funny without their glasses on. She didn't say that but I know that's how I always feel when I see someone who always wears glasses without them. Was the foreshadowing effective? Did it add to the suspense? In the middle of the set Kathy, Abbie's mother came back just to chat. That was nice we usually don't get much time to talk and we haven't seen each other in ages. Between shows Gene, Isabel, Chris, and I went out for ice cream. There's a great place on the pier in Piermont. We got back and sat at the same table for the second show. Once again Chris and I joined them till it got crowded. This time we were replaced by Jim and a friend of his. We kept things in the family. I actually got a seat at the table next to theirs. It looks like some people never showed up. After the show we counted out the merch and money, said good bye to everyone, and headed home. I was back in my apartment before 10:30; not bad for a night I saw two shows. The first thing I did when I got home was fix my glasses. LORi gave me an eye glass repair kit for Festivus. I have precision screwdrivers so I could have done with that but the kit came with tiny screws. That was great. I don't have to bring them in someplace to have them repaired. I woke up last night and was struck by how much my body is falling apart. I had to run to the bathroom with diarrhea. When I got back to bed I had a huge sneezing fit. That made my right shoulder and my lower back hurt. They have both been bothering me. The only thing that didn't act up was my dermatitis. I could have just ended the entry there but I didn't want dermatitis to be the last word. I should switch to something more pleasant. I have three road trips planned the next two months. First up is Toronto for the premiere of My Mother's Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding. Right after that I'm going to Summerfest in New Bedford. Later in July I'm of course going to FRFF. I might not travel far or spend much money on it but I have lots of fun when I do. That's a much happier note to end with.
