I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity.
Edgar Allen Poe

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.
- H. L. Mencken

Many people would sooner die than think; In fact, they do so
-Bertrand Russell

What I have been telling you, from alpha to omega, what is the one great thing the sigil taught me — that everything in life is miraculous. For the sigil taught me that it rests within the power of each of us to awaken at will from a dragging nightmare of life made up of unimportant tasks and tedious useless little habits, to see life as it really is, and to rejoice in its exquisite wonderfulness. If the sigil were proved to be the top of a tomato-can, it would not alter that big fact, nor my fixed faith. No Harrowby, the common names we call things by do not matter — except to show how very dull we are ...

You Oughta Be In Pictures

I have not one but two cheater entries I could do today. That's good as I didn't leave the house yesterday. I spent hours and hours editing the photos that were on my phone so I guess that's the cheater I'll use. I really have to learn to use my camera. This is getting ridiculous I love photography and haven't been able to take decent pictures. Of course some of what the phone does comes out shall we say interesting. So let's recap what I uploaded last night, It will be a review of much that I've done since June when I got the camera.

I got the phone on June 23 and went straight from buying it to seeing We're About 9 as a duo at the Notes from Home house concert series in Montclair. I had adventures getting there. These were the first photos I ever took with the camera and I didn't upload them till today. I didn't know how at first.

I needed a new backpack, till I got one at NERFA. I was thinking of getting this one and took a picture to send to Carey to see what she thought.

Agent P

Do I need to tell you that she said I should buy it? I didn't.

I usually take pictures in poor light which my camera isn't very good at. That leads to the kind of effects people us Instagram to get. Here's the fabulous Tomoko Omura at Tomi. I have to admit I like the way this came out.

I wrote a lot here about living in the cupboard under the stairs. This is what it looked like.

When Lena visited we saw a fire in the East Village. Here are the photos of them fighting the fire.

Now we'll skip ahead to November. I went to see Amy Speace at the Living Room.

Here's Mark Allen Berube at the Second Friday series. This was actually the third Friday of November because it's Mark. Well actually because NERFA was the second Friday but I'd rather blame Mark.

Here are my walks across the George Washtington Bridge on Thanksgiving.
Google won't show the slideshow anymore so click on this to see the album

I went to see Supercute at Bowery Electric and the pictures came out quite Andy Warhol which I find quite appropriate.

Anaïs Mitchell at the Bowery Ballroom was one of the best concerts of the year. I guess that will be another cheater entry.

Rachel Ries

Now they are coming fast and furious as I've been using my camera routinely. This is the Just One Angel show with Uncle Bonsai and Christine Lavin .

Here's Kat Quinn's holiday show.

Anthony da Costa said that social media is a skinny mirror and that's a great observation (that's one reason he's a great songwriter). No sooner had I posted these photos when people started hitting the "like" button. It's instant affirmation. And of course it's biased. For the most part the people that think they suck aren't saying anything so all I get is the praise. Of course Wise Madness is an even better example that makes me feel even better. I invest more in my writing than my photography. Facebook is great for me. I am funny and quick and have a way with words so every time I make a comment there's a good chance I'll get some praise. I'm also really annoying but everyone is too polite to say that. In real life I hear the groans or even worse the silence when my jokes fall flat. Online all I get is the praise.

I have to get my day going. Tonight I'm seeing Dar. I might have some more photos for you. Maybe a miracle will happen and I'll learn how to use my camera today. In any event that's it for today. Don't forget to heap praise on my photos and writing.
