I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity.
Edgar Allen Poe

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.
- H. L. Mencken

Many people would sooner die than think; In fact, they do so
-Bertrand Russell

What I have been telling you, from alpha to omega, what is the one great thing the sigil taught me — that everything in life is miraculous. For the sigil taught me that it rests within the power of each of us to awaken at will from a dragging nightmare of life made up of unimportant tasks and tedious useless little habits, to see life as it really is, and to rejoice in its exquisite wonderfulness. If the sigil were proved to be the top of a tomato-can, it would not alter that big fact, nor my fixed faith. No Harrowby, the common names we call things by do not matter — except to show how very dull we are ...

A Month of Music

The WFUV pledge drive starts tomorrow so I'll be entering a blogging dead zone. I don't volunteer on Saturday, so I will write then.

Lori's mother died; the funeral is in the Philly area on Monday. I don't have a car. Do I have any friends going to the funeral that could pick me up at the train or bus early on Monday? The other possibility is picking me up late on Sunday and letting me crash with you.

I just discovered an idiot story. On Opening Day of the Met game Alan gave me tickets to two more games. I never put them in my calendar. One is on Tuesday. Six days later Jim wrote me and asked if I wanted to be his +1 for Lake Street Dive. I of course said, "yes!" I just realized that's the same night. If I had realized that the member drive was on when Alan offered me the Met ticket I'd have declined as it means getting very little sleep. I didn't know because I had missed the email from WFUV. I know I make being an idiot look easy, but it isn't. I'm just that good at it.

I just realized I left my clothes in the dryer last night. It's a good day for idiot stories.

I had a great blogging idea the other day. It was on a common thread in the way people think about a number of subjects. I only remember one of them. I see the common thread today is my idiocy.

I have the sensation of everything happening at once for the next week. There are a lot of conflicts. Part of that was from me not filling in my calendar in advance. I don't want that happening to you; so, I'm going to provide you a list of concerts you should not miss over the next month.

Now for breakfast. It's early. I'm going to make grits ala Horvendile for the first time in ages.
