With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
November 06, 2009 - 11:26 p.m. Lena is sleeping so I have time to write. I'll try and catch up. I finally got around to cleaning the apartment just about the time that Lena's plane landed, yes I'm totally hopeless. At least I something done before I left. Every other time I picked up Lena I left my home and parked at JFK and waited forever for Lena to get through customs and get her luggage. This time I told her to call me when she got off the plane and again when she was out of passport check but before she went to baggage claim. I left a little after that. So what happened? This time everything went super fast and she had to wait for me to get to the airport. You can't win. At least I saved a fortune for parking. Lena was prepared to go out that night but I thought she'd be too tired and planned on a evening at home. I went to the Pakistani restaurant and brought back dinner while she decompressed. She fell asleep while we were watching Some Like It Hot. In the morning I left for school and left Lena the keys. She left later and met me after my first class. We had lunch during my break and she relaxed in my office during my afternoon class. After that we went shopping for a winter coat for her. She was not dressed nearly warmly enough so I gave her my sweatshirt that she wore over hers. My jacket was almost warm enough so that was the best solution. We walked over to the East Side. She couldn't get what she wanted at New York and Company but found something at HMV. Is that the store or is that the record store? Shows what I know. Our next stop was St Bart's church. It's one of my favorite buildings in the City. It's almost enough to make me go to services. OK, it isn't but it's enough to make me dream of running a coffeehouse series there. Our next stop was the Museum of Modern Art. I haven't been there in years, not since it reopened. It costs a fortune but is free on Friday nights. Lena started running out of gas so we only saw one floor. I'll have to go back another Friday. Still I saw plenty of great art, Van Gogh's Starry Night, Dali's Persistence of Memory, and Picasso's, Three Musicians. I can't remember the title of the Chagall and I know I'm missing some others I know well and you'd know too. It is always a wonder to see iconic art in person, within arm's reach. It often say that I'm not a fan of modern art but that's not really true. First off I love the "early" modern art, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Rousseau, etc. When I got the more modern works many left me cold then one would just jump out and speak to me. Add art museums to the list of things I need to do more often. Does anyone want to join me? What I'd really love is someone to teach me as we went along. I was teaching Lena. I'd love to go with someone really knowledgeable. That doesn't mean I don't want to go with anyone who would enjoy it. If you like the Met, I can be the guide. That museum I know well. Food is expensive around there so we went to the Village for dinner. We had trouble finding something cheap and interesting down there so I called Deni, we were a few blocks from her house. She recommended a pizza place that she said was amazing. It was great. What I liked even more was Sweet Revenge, the bakery across the street. There's no need to wait on the line at Magnolia, just go to Sweet Revenge. It's on Carmine east of 7th Avenue. We headed home after that and as I said, Lena's now sleeping. She still has not adjusted to EST. I keep teasing her and calling her grandma. Tomorrow night we're seeing Deni perform with her band at The Living Room. I don't know what we're doing during the day. I'll see what Lena feels up to. I'm watching Stargate Universe. It earned major points when one of the characters needed to make up a fake name for himself and used "Phillip Frye." Did I spell that right? I didn't finish reading the Times this morning. I'm going to do that now before I go to sleep.
