With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
September 21, 2009 - 6:04 p.m. I didn't have time to update during my break. Now I'm home and don't have time to go shopping so I'll try and update. Did you notice that I went five whole days, Monday through Friday, without hearing live music? Now I'm making up for my drought. On Saturday I went t the Madison Square Studio series, yesterday I went to The Turning Point to see The Kennedys, and tonight I'm going to Union Hall in Brooklyn to see Anaïs Mitchell. Yesterday my choice was between seeing Pete and Maura or Red Molly. This would normally be a dilemma but circumstances made it a no brainer. Red Molly was playing at Joe's Pub. That means the show would only be about 75 minutes long. Not only that but it was a co-bill so they would only be on for about 35 minutes. Not only that but the co-bill was with the Nields! That means an hour too little Red Molly and a half an hour too much Nields. I of course got to the Turning Point early to set up the merch, did I need to mention I was merching? And hang out with Pete and Maura. I've been merching their enough that I've gotten friendly with the staff, John, the owner, Charlie who works the doors, and, and, and, damn, I forgot the name of the waitress. I had a mnemonic for it but I forgot that too. True to her profession she didn't remember my name but she knows what I drink; water. The big news was that Maura's CD, Parade of Echoes was delivered to them last night and was for sale at the show. I got my copy. You should get yours. If you click the player at the bottom of this page you can hear the songs from it an purchase them digitally. Listen to The Thing With Feathers, that's my favorite. Do it right now. I'll wait. I knew less people at the show than usual. Jeff & Karen were at the Red Molly Nields show. I'm sure others were deterred by it being Rosh Hashanah. I'm bad Jew but a really good atheist. Guess what, I took pictures. Here's what Maura looks like playing solo. Don't worry, this doesn’t mean the end of the Kennedys. One look at them together tells you that. Pete is not using that beer bottle in the way the manufacturer intended. If you have seen them perform enough you should know not only what song Maura's singing but what part of the song. That's her singing Matty Groves's lines to Lord Donald in Matty Groves. Did someone shrink Maura?
This is what the house looks like. For a finale they first did Leaving on a Jet Plane as a tribute to Mary Travers. That was a one time only thing, and special. They finished with Stand. They perform that every show but it is still special every time I hear it. After the show I flew home and got parking right on my block! That never happens. I was worried because I got home around 9. I better run now. I want to get a good seat for Anaïs. Or is it a standing show? I'll let you know.
