With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
-Steven Weinberg

The good life, as I conceive it, is a happy life. I do not mean that if you are good you will be happy - I mean that if you are happy you will be good.
-Bertrand Russell

Too much sanity may be madness and the maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be.
-Miguel de Cervantes

The only way to find the limits of the possible is by going past them into the impossible.

We Now Return to My Regularly Scheduled Life

I'm ending my time as an invalid and going out and living my life again. Tonight I went to see Kristin Andreassen at the Housing Works Bookshop Café. I used to go there quite a bit till once I ran into my evil boss and avoided it. She's been dead for years, I should have started going back. The show was free but I ended up buying three books. They cost me all of $4, One, Two, Three … Infinity by George Gamov, Unpopular Essays by Bertrand Russell, and Faust Eric by Terry Pratchett. How come I can always read Pratchett even when I can't concentrate on other books? I've already read 93 pages.

When I heard about the concert I wrote Kristin and asked if she wanted me to merch and she said yes. On her email Kristin said the show was at 7 PM and I got there at 6:40. I was afraid that was too late. When I arrived the doors were locked. I knocked and when I explained that I was with Kristin they let me in. Kristin wasn't there. She got the time wrong on the email, the show was at 8 PM. I used the time to look at books and read. That's how I was able to read so much. I also discovered that the Housing Works volunteers sold he merch so I could relax and enjoy the show.

I have not seen Kristin solo before. I love her music so I knew I'd love the show. I was right. Her newest material is for a children's album she's working on, Jumping Through Hoops: Songs of Bravery and Courage.. She debuted her first music video, it is of her most famous song, Crayola. It was made with the help of the students at the Conservatory Lab Charter School, Brighton, MA. There is wonderful animation by Weston Malgren.

Today I enjoyed two of the things that I bought yesterday. For the first time in a year I made used my new ice cube trays to make ice coffee. I can't believe there are good and bad ice cube trays but my new ones are so much better than my old. It is much easier to get the ice out.

Today was one of the first hot and muggy days of the summer. My fan kept the apartment comfortable. I turned it off and it was oppressive when I got back tonight. Within minutes the apartment had cooled off. It is the middle of July and so far I have not missed not having an air conditioner. I won't get one till August.

Noticed that I haven't mentioned my arm at all today? It is getting so much better. I still can't really use it for most things but it doesn't hurt. I can type all this without pain and I can move it a little more every day.

When I got home tonight two of my favorite movies growing up were on. They are still two of my favorite movies, Beau Geste and Gunga Din. I am such a sucker for the old-time adventure stories. My heart soars each time I see them. All I need to do is hear the music for Gunga Din.

My arm is fine but it is late and I have to get to bed. Before I go I just want to link to last entry. It was one with real intellectual content and hardly anyone read it.

Now I'm off to bed.
