With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
-Steven Weinberg

The good life, as I conceive it, is a happy life. I do not mean that if you are good you will be happy - I mean that if you are happy you will be good.
-Bertrand Russell

Too much sanity may be madness and the maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be.
-Miguel de Cervantes

The only way to find the limits of the possible is by going past them into the impossible.

Elliott and da Costa are Phrosty

Time is short and I can catch up on my newspaper reading or update. I'm put my Gentle Readers first. I'm going to update. I'm two thirds of the way through my tres phrosty music weekend. Last night was second leg and my first of the Elliott and da Costa mini-tour. The third is this afternoon. Their motto is: When you have to feel emotions watch us; We'll feel them for you. Yes I spend far too much time thinking about this stuff.

Elliott is John Elliott and da Costa is Anthony da Costa. How good are they? They both have macros to insert link's to their website on my copy of Word.

Right after I finished writing my last entry I left for the Common Ground Coffeehouse in Hastings. I stopped at Wendy's first. That cost me 20 minutes driving time. I got on the Van Wyck two exits before the one I normally would and there must have been an accident in that stretch. Traffic was crawling. I got off the first exit then got back on where I normally get on and it was moving fine. I was still the first person there.

Carter welcomed me at the door and I hung out with him during sound check. I love that he let me into the auditorium during sound check. That's so informal. It wasn't a special favor to me. It's how they do things there.

Carter is what sold me on Facebook. I was one of the people that Facebook said he should friend; we know a lot of people in common. He did. Then we met in real life and he recognized me from Facebook and introduced himself. Now we are real life friends.

There were a lot of my friends at the show. Some I expected and some I didn't. Maggi showed up early. I thought she lived in the City but she lives just 8 minutes away. Then Howard and his wife showed up. I knew he'd be there. He's a WFUV volunteer. Then came the most surprising one. When I got there Carter mentioned that someone he knew only from Facebook came down from Marblehead MA. I said, Kathy? It was! How is that for hardcore? She puts me to shame. She not only drove down with her daughter Meghan (Yay I remembered her name) she picked up Ethan (from Pesky Nixon) and Steve (who does house concerts) in Connecticut. And yes I'm showing off that I remember everyone's name. Oh know who I forgot to mention who came in last? Barbara. I knew she'd be there. She's local and is hard core too. As the show started Dennis, Anthony's father, showed up. You get the picture. I had lots of friends there and I always love that.

I see Anthony all the time, talk about him constantly, and many of you know him too. John's another story. All the earthworms that turn the musical soil know and love him. We all think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Yet nobody else does? Why is that? Now part of it is that he lives in LA. He likes the people better here and is thinking of moving. I hope he does and you get to see him. Try and catch him if you can. He's special. Thinking about him led me to a realization about artists. It's actually a point that James Branch Cabell made. I'll stick to musicians for now. Some songwriters write songs that express exactly what you feel, what most people feel, in a way that most people could never do for themselves. Think of Paul McCartney or Paul Simon. What is it with the Pauls? Others lead you into their own thoughts which are different that most people's. It leads you to think things you wouldn't have thought otherwise. Think Bob Dylan, Dan Bern, and John Prine. They usually don't make it as big as the other type as their attraction is that they are alien to most people. It isn't that one is better than the other. They serve different purposes. Cabell put Shakespeare in the first class and Marlowe in the second. Everyone quotes Shakespeare because he thinks just what most people think but says it perfectly.

John is of the second type. You listen to his songs and enter his mind and it doesn't work like most people's. Listen to him and you'll think thoughts you haven't thought before.

OK now it's late and I have to leave. More on John and Anthony with photos and videos my next entry.
