With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
April 02, 2003 - 11:00 p.m. Stop the presses! Richard Thompson is going to play FRFF! This really is going to be the best festival ever. I’m going to get to see RT, Arlo,DVN, and Leah. I didn’t get nearly enough sleep Monday night; I had my first insomnia attack in ages. I showed the effects in class. I made so many mistakes. I hate that. Teaching is one of the things that I think I’m confident that I’m good at. I want to be at my best. After school I got an estimate to fix the damage to the car, $600. It’s never cheap. I went to tutor Hillary, Roy’s daughter yesterday afternoon and I spent most the time driving. I can usually get there in half an hour. There was a huge accident on the LIE and it snarled up all the other roads too. It took me an hour and 15 minutes to get there and an hour and a half to get home. I’ve been having strange things happen with my dreams lately. I wake up and know I’ve been dreaming. I feel that they were interesting dreams but I can’t remember anything but the last thing that happened. All I remember from last night was sitting in a drawing room and talking to an aristocratic mother and a daughter about where who they were going to visit. I know the dream was better than that but I can’t remember any of it: Just like my waking life. There is a debate on FHDC about affirmative action. I made my arguments for it but I get so upset reading those against it. I’m trying to not respond since all I want to say is “you are a racist idiot.” Yes it would be better if race and sex weren’t factors. The reality though is that they are. Something has to be done about it. Affirmative action has proven to be about the only thing that works. It isn’t perfect but it’s better than doing nothing. I don’t see people up in arms fighting the biggest affirmative action programs, legacies in schools and hiring friends and relatives. I’m getting all worked up writing about it here too. The one comforting thought is that most of the establishment is for it. The major universities and Fortune 500 companies are filing friend of the court briefs in supporting it. There are very few briefs being filed against it.
