With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
2002-10-21 - 3:00 p.m. This is going to be a challenge. I had my eyes examined today and the drops haven’t worn off so I can’t see very well. At least I’ll have an excuse for all my typos. Sunday morning I met Lisa at the Seaport. We went to see Deni Bonet give a free concert there for the MS bike tour of Manhattan. Carey and I saw her do something similar this summer, I wonder if she has a personal reason to be involved in MS fundraising. Her show was great but I felt bad for her. There was no place to really watch her from. There were people walking and biking past us the whole time. I think that Lisa and I were the only ones who stayed for the entire set. I thought I had seen Deni with Lisa before but apparently I hadn’t. Deni did a few new songs, that was nice. She kept plugging her TV show. It isn’t shown in Queens. I volunteered to sponsor it on Queens Public Access but I haven’t heard from her yet. I was going to talk to her about it after the show but she was busy and kept walking past me. After the show and lunch Lisa and I went shopping for some things she needed. We seem to go shopping a lot. I think she likes my shopping luck. We were able to get a Panasonic VCR for $60, a purple (her favorite color) clock radio, and a belt for her. After shopping we went to the University Restaurant for desert and something to drink. We both had egg creams and she had cheesecake and I had tiramasu. The best part is that no one yelled at us, unlike when I took Carey there. I think it was because they weren’t as crowded. Or maybe it was just that the mean guy wasn’t there. Last night I stayed home and watched the World Series. The good news was that Bonds hit another home run. The bad news is that the game was a slugfest and the Giants lost. This morning I was awakened by a phone call from my mother. She was at the opthomologist on a follow up visit about her cataract surgery. The doctor asked about me. I had forgotten I had an appointment this morning. I raced out of bed and to the doctor. She was able to squeeze me in so it wasn’t a big problem. She told me that my distance prescription was the same as my current glasses. That means they haven’t changed in about 10 years. They used to change every year. I’m –1 diopter in my left eye and –2.5 in the right. I do need bifocals and I got a prescription for them. I’ll have to check if my insurance covers them. If not I’ll have to go to my cheap glasses place and get them for $70. I don’t want to pay hundreds of dollars. It was a challenge driving home from the doctor and to the train station because of the drops. I made it though and was able to grade the two tests I had to give back today. Teaching was really tough though. I had so much trouble reading from the book or my notes. I hope it clears up before I play bridge tonight.
