With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
November 13, 2009 - 5:07 p.m. I'm taking a pit stop at home before I go out tonight. I'm going to the Outpost in the Burbs to see Red Molly It's one of my favorite venues but perhaps my least favorite to get to. I have to travel to Montclair NJ during Friday evening rush hour. There simply is no good way to get there. When they moved to the Unitarian Church the NY Times did an article on it, Bursting Out of Its 130-Seat Seams. Yours truly was quoted in the third paragraph from the end. I'm doing merch for the band. That used to not be noteworthy but as they've been touring more out of town I'm seeing them less. I'm glad I can make the show. The opening act is Budgiedome alum Joe Crookston. I was stupid. There is a really good chance that Gene and Isabel are going to be there, Red Molly and Joe have both played at their house. If I had arranged beforehand I could have taken public transit there from school and asked them for a ride home. I didn't think of that till I had left my office. Gene didn't answer when I called so I came home. The weather has been miserable today. Even though it didn't rain when I was out I was glad I got my new trench coat from Aiden. This is the perfect weather for it, cold and damp. The wind is brutal so an umbrella might well be destroyed. I'm happy that I have my hat and coat. I might have to fight to keep the hat on my head. I found another person that doesn't understand the concept of a door. This morning when the train came into the station someone stood on the platform right in front of the door. I had to nudge him out of the way to board the train. I have no idea what he was doing on the platform as no other train stops there if he wasn't going to get on it. I keep my fan in the window. The wind is blowing so hard the blades are moving faster than when it is on. It's going to be an interesting weather evening. Everything I can remember that I thought about today are things that I've discussed here many time. Dare I write something more about religion? Well I'll try as this is a bit different than when I usually write. Was Christ a Christian? He didn't worship himself so I don't think you can say he was. Jesus was Jewish. Christianity wasn't founded till after he died. In a sense he wasn't the founder of Christianity, it was his disciples who started worshiping him after he died. There's a poll on Facebook, "Do you believe that Jesus existed." That's led me to think about the relative historical existence of the founders of the western religions. We know that Mohammed existed and a great deal about his actual life. He was important while he was alive and people noted what he did. Nobody wrote anything about Jesus till he was dead. That is, if he existed in the first place. Like Socrates there is a chance he was a literary device to teach lessons. There is really no evidence that Moses existed and Abraham is clouded even further in mythology. It goes just like you expect, the further back you go in time the less you know. Do any of my gentle readers know evidence of Buddha's existence? I should know this but I don't, the same for Confucius. Say what you will about him but we know that L. Ron Hubbard existed. He made one of my favorite quotes. "You can't make any money writing science fiction. If a science fiction writer wants to get rich he should start a religion." It says a lot about the way people's minds work that lots of people gave him money. Now I'm off to see Red Molly and Joe Crookston, take pictures, and sell merch. One more thing. I almost forgot. I've discovered the secret of life. If you accept my religion you'll gain eternal happiness. The first step is giving me $10,000. I'll tell you the rest after the check clears.
