With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
January 22, 2004 - 11:19 p.m. I went to my aunt's funeral today. I'm afraid that I'm going to start sounding like a funeral reviewer. The main problem with this one was that the Rabbi did almost all the talking. He was a bit, shall we say different. He kept referring to my aunt as Aunt Pompie, that worked fine for my sisters and myself but not for most of the people there. We thought that was so odd. After the services we went to the cemetery. My aunt was cremated yesterday, today her ashes were interred. It was cold and there was snow and ice on the ground. The sun was shining though and I think it counts as one of the better weather days for a funeral I've been to. From the cemetery we went back to my uncle's house. Funerals always end up being family days. I spent time not only with my sisters but with cousins that I don’t often see. Some I saw often at some point of my life, others I have seen only a few times in my life. Tonight I spent with my sisters and my mother, just watching TV and talking. That is always nice. I was remiss and never bought my ticket to see Christine Lavin tomorrow night and now the show is sold out. That means I'm going to see Ruth Gerson again. I never mind that.
