With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
September 05, 2007 - 5:14 p.m. Today was the first day of school. I set my alarm for 7:15 but ended up getting up before 6. I took advantage of the extra time to make breakfast at home, do some things on the computer and to take an earlier train in. Even with that extra time I was not able to prepare my attendance sheets before class. The rosters are online but in a format where you can’t just copy and past them onto a spreadsheet so you can use them. Every semester I write the IT department that they should fix that and every semester they ignore me. There is a way around it but I never remember from semester to semester so I have to recreate the wheel. I’m going to write is down here then I can refer to this entry next semester
Oh yes the installed Office 2007 on my computer and I have to figure out how to use it. It seems the main point is to make you take extra steps to do what you could formerly do with one click. I have worked on it a bit so at least now I can print and open files with one click. They seem to think that you’d work with styles more often than you’d print or open pages. Oh yes, I can’t seem to make it not skip a line when I hit enter. I got to my first class and started teaching and found that there was no eraser in the room. It is the first day and they weren’t prepared. How sad is that? The actual classes went well. So far the students like me. I spent more than half the time giving them the “you are in college not in high school this is the score” speech. I decided to not wear my linen outfit today because I didn’t want them to get distracted by it. I figure that I’m enough of a shock to their expectations just being me. For those of you that don’t know me in person I have a really high energy level. I apparently come across as someone that has just taken huge doses of caffeine. Do those of you that know me agree with that assessment? I also am not very serious. I make a lot of jokes often at my own expense. I tell stories. I go off on tangents. My class is sort of like a Früvous concert. I actually brought my lunch to school today. I knew I wouldn’t have time to run out between my classes because there was something I needed to do. Today was the day that the tickets to the Mets’ post season games went on sale. We are entitled to tickets to one game because we have a seven pack. Alan doesn’t have email so I did it for him. It wasn’t that easy because the website is insane. It said that I already had our account set up online but then wouldn’t let me buy the tickets. I called up and found that I had to enter more information even though it didn’t say that anywhere. I wasn’t able to get that done before my break was over so I had to wait till after my second class and of course that meant getting worse seats. The Batnoses are in second place 2 points out of first.
