With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
October 05, 2009 - 10:00 p.m. Here's a shocker I've been procrastinating and now have to do 12 things at once. We'll see how I manage. To help me prepare for getting up at 4:50 tomorrow I set my alarm today for 7:00 instead of 7:30. Too bad I forgot to turn it on. That wasn't actually a problem as I awoke at 6:15. When I get up that early I actually have to rush to get to school on time. Why? Because that gives me not only enough time to make breakfast but to get on the computer, the ultimate Chronoklept. I started teaching graphing in school. That's one of my favorite topics. It highlights the real beauty of math. The whole point of graphing is that it allows us to use our geometric intuition on algebra problems and analytic tools on geometry problems. It ushered in calculus which ushered in modern science which ushered in the modern world. If graphing isn't invented you aren't reading this on a computer. Computers don't exist. I went shopping after school today. I've been meaning to do that. I realized that I only have about four shirts I can wear for knocking around when it's too cold for a t-shirt. Now I have five. I need a few more. That one student has become a regular in my office. I love it. This hasn't happened in a few years. She actually cares. She always thinks I'm imposing. I'm trying to get her to understand that it's a treat for me. Oh, I actually remembered to bring peanut butter and bread to my office so I don't have to go out for lunch. I'm always rushing to grab something. Now I don't have to. I have to remember to bring the paper plates next time. Now on to the entry idea I've been promising for days. This is going to be such a let down after all that build up. That's a rhetorical trick. I just lowered your expectations to make the entry seem better. Brian, I know you just thought, "My expectations couldn't get any lower." Cut that out. You might have notice I'm an enthusiast. There are many things that I don't just love but feel passionately about. I'm never over the top. I always know people that get much more obsessed than I do but I do get more excited than most. It is one of my defining characteristics. In my favorite guest entry Carey said, "when Gordon finds something he loves, he wants to share it with everyone possible." Recently I've been raving to you about Deni Bonet, Richard Feynman, baseball, and WFUV. So here's what I'm going to do. I’m going to simply make a multi-layered bullet point list of things I enthuse about.
I can go on for hours but it's almost 10 and I'm getting up at 4:45 tomorrow. I wanted to be in bed by now but I haven't even started making dinner. Oh, I'm down one shirt since I started this. I did my laundry and the collar of one shirt disintegrated. I know I forgot many things that I am very passionate about. That's the thing, I have too many to keep track of.
