With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
-Steven Weinberg

The good life, as I conceive it, is a happy life. I do not mean that if you are good you will be happy - I mean that if you are happy you will be good.
-Bertrand Russell

Too much sanity may be madness and the maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be.
-Miguel de Cervantes

I enjoy paying taxes. With them I buy civilization.

I feel a draft

I’m going to write a quick entry. Look what time I’m posting this. I have to leave at 7AM. I was supposed to wake up at 6:15 but I got up earlier and showered so now I’m taking advantage of the extra time.

On Friday I did my twelve hour shift at WFUV. It was cold and raining when I left the house to pick up Nora at 5 AM. I guess it was because of the rain but we actually hit traffic and got to the station just in time. I like to get their earlier to turn the phones on, find out what’s going on.

We were understaffed the first shirt, City Folk Morning, Claudia Marshall’s and Julianne Welby’s show. I had to man the phones quite a bit. I don’t really mind that but it means I can’t give help when people need it. Things run smoother when I supervise. Also my handwriting is so bad things run smoother if I don’t fill out forms.

As on Thursday we didn’t mean our goals. Things picked up the first two hours of Darren DaVivo’s show. Those are usually slow but we made both our goals this time. Then we hit the wall and the calls and online pledges slowed to a crawl. That continued through Dennis Elsas’s show. Nora had to leave after Darren’s show and we were once again shorthanded.

I of course had tons of fun. The last shift less so than normal as I wasn’t friendly with any of the volunteers. I did make a new friend and had the bonus of seeing he was reading a bridge book!

Yesterday was my baseball league draft. It was in central New Jersey, and hour and a half from my house. To make things worse I was supposed to get there between 9 and 10 AM. It was something of a schlep. When I left it was once more cold and raining. When I got there it was warm and sunny. That wasn’t too surprising as central Jersey is the south. It isn’t the Deep South like Northern Virginia where Lena lived. When I said that Diana disagreed but Larry was on my side.

Diana called me just as I was leaving and that is when they were leaving too so we had a race. They live a bit further but I had to stop and get gas and food. I had a GPS problem, it froze at one point and I had to reboot. They beat me there by about 20 seconds.

The draft was fun and I think I did OK. Here is the roster for the 2008 National Batnoses.

I filled out a table with half my team but now I have to run so I’ll save that for my next entry. I’m off to WFUV again then a Knick game tonight.
