With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
August 31, 2003 - 11:54 p.m. I am a total donut. The Mets were playing this afternoon and as I usually do for day games I decided to take the bus and subway there. I had $2 on my metrocard, just enough for the trip there. I could refill it when I got the subway so I could get home. I went out of the house and saw the bus at the corner. I ran to the next corner where it stops and the bus driver actually waited for me. I went in, sat down and started reading Emma. When I was about half way to there I realized that I forgot to bring my ticket to the game. I hopped off the bus and started waiting for the next one back. I then remembered that I didn’t have any money on my card and I didn’t’ have $2 in change. I was lucky because there was a store a few blocks away and was able to get change. I got on the bus and made it home with enough time for my mother to drive me to the LIRR station to make the train that would get me to Shea Stadium a few minutes before game time. I was lucky in that the conductor didn’t collect my fair. I was counting on that. I didn’t purchase a ticket because I knew that there was a good chance they wouldn’t. If they did I’d have to pay a service charge. I was unlucky because the train was delayed a few times and was late. I missed a half an inning of the game. The game wasn’t too exciting, the Mets lost 4-1 and I lost my game with Alan. We are now tied for the season with three games left. Are you all on the edge of your seat? The biggest news at the game was that Jose Reyes, the Mets best prospect in 20 years got hurt on the last play. It looked really bad but it is only a sprain. He is the one player whose future I really care about on the team. After the game Alan and I walked across Flushing Meadows Corona Park to his car. It is amazing how much use that park gets. It is such a worthwhile investment for the city. The park is filled with people, the majority of which I think are immigrants. They are playing soccer, volleyball, and picnicking. Before I left I called my chairman to find out what I’m teaching this semester. I have back to back Calculus and Fundamentals of Math, the remedial course. I was relieved that I wasn’t teaching on Thursday nights. I have too many good things planned for them. I was just talking to Jodie. She walked in the room to find her boyfriend on the computer and her AIM on. She wanted to know if I had been talking to him. I usually say hi as soon as she signs on and she does the same with me. I didn’t because I was busy writing this update. I asked her if her boyfriend knows I exist and she said, “Of course.” I didn’t know I was an, “Of course.” It made me happy.
