With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
-Steven Weinberg

The good life, as I conceive it, is a happy life. I do not mean that if you are good you will be happy - I mean that if you are happy you will be good.
-Bertrand Russell

Too much sanity may be madness and the maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be.
-Miguel de Cervantes

The only way to find the limits of the possible is by going past them into the impossible.

So Much Music So Little Time

I've fallen behind in my writing. Now I have to write about two days in one entry.

Saturday night I went to see Deni Bonet at The Living Room. This was a big show for Deni and she asked me to bring people. I managed to bring Lori, not LORi, and she brought two friends. I need a better way of referring to Lori. Lori not LORi does have a certain ring to it. I could call her WFUV Lori. That's where I know her from.

When I got the venue the act before Deni was on. Deni was standing in the back with Paul, and Andy, her husband, and I said hi to them. Then I saw Lori and joined her and her friends Dawn and Patrick. As soon as the band finished we grabbed one of my usual tables, the one in the corner. I have a picture.

l to r: Patrick, Dawn, Lori

Apparently Lori and Dawn knew my car before they knew me. It was famous for all the bumper stickers. They went to school in Bayside near where I lived.

Deni put on her usual great show. I think this was her first time performing with her ukulele.

She usually plays the violin.
Her guitarist Austin must have gotten jealous and started playing his guitar with a bow.
I was really happy that Lori and her friends showed up. They had never heard Deni and were there on just my word. I am happy to say that they want to see her again. I was happier to have fun people to hang out with.

I looked around before the show and the only other people I knew were Todd, another music junkie, and a couple of They Might Be Giant fans whose name I forgot. They know Deni from her gigs with Piñataland. I was happy to see them picking up on her. The after the show who walks up to me and says "Hi?" Doug and Robin from Piñataland! As I always say, it's a small incestuous world. I was shocked to discover that Doug was not aware of Piñataland 's connection with They Might Be Giants. That's how I discovered them, from Marti and other giantheads.

Here are the rest of the photos I took. The reason I didn't update this morning was because I went to the Hoboken Music Festival to see Red Molly. I was suppose to meet Chris there at 1:00 I thought I'd be late as the trains run local on weekends and after the subway I had to take the Path train and I left myself only a little over an hour to get there. Somehow a miracle occurred and I made it in an hour and eight minutes. So of course Chris was late. I walked the festival, which is really a street fair before he arrived. I had lots of fun food. Barbecue brisket, red velvet cake, and a pretzel covered in chocolate and peanut butter. I resisted the grilled corn. I love it but I know it will make me sick.

When Chris and his friend Kate, arrived I met them. This is where cell phones make life so much easier. If I didn't have one I'd be standing somewhere waiting for him.

After we met we saw a guy dressed like a cup of coffee from Dunkin' Donuts advertising a two for one sale on pounds of coffee. I was going to stop on the way home and buy a pound so now I was able to buy two for the same price. That worked out well.

When I was getting the coffee Chris and Kate walked down to the stage where Red Molly was going to perform. There was another act on and they couldn't find 3 seats together so we had to wait for him to finish. What's funny is that I saw them sitting off to the side on a ledge an right next to them was Abbie Gardner's parents but neither noticed this other till I said hi.

I then went backstage to talk to Red Molly. Only Carolann was there but we had a nice talk. I haven't seen them much this summer. We are used to seeing each other more than once a month. This was the first time she's seen me with such a full beard. The last time we saw each other was Falcon Ridge. She said that I looked like Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof. What's funny is that I was thinking the same thing as I was combing my hair this morning.

It was great hearing Red Molly. I was going through withdrawal. I haven't seen them since July 4th weekend. I'm happy to say I didn't break my elbow today.

After the gig we sold CDS from our seats. The Merch Tent was far from the stage and I never saw it even though I was looking for it so the band thought of having us sell them from our seats. Smart idea.

So that was my music filled weekend. Next on my agenda is seeing the Lovell Sisters Tuesday night at the Living Room. Who's joining me for that?
