With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
-Steven Weinberg

The good life, as I conceive it, is a happy life. I do not mean that if you are good you will be happy - I mean that if you are happy you will be good.
-Bertrand Russell

Too much sanity may be madness and the maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be.
-Miguel de Cervantes

I enjoy paying taxes. With them I buy civilization.

Don't ask who saw the Kennedys

The WFUV pledge drive is over so I get to go back to sleeping late. Will somebody tell my body that? I got up at 5:50 this morning. I’ll use the time to update.

Right after I made my last update I made my goodbyes at the station and left on my trek to deepest darkest New Jersey, Belvidere , a stone’s throw from Pennsylvania. Mapquest said it would take me an hour and a half and that was just about right. The meet and greet started at 1:30 and I got there around 1:35. I wasn’t the first one there but it was close. That was nice because it gave me some time to talk to Pete and Maura alone. They have been so supportive of me since my mother got sick. Maura went through the same thing with her mother.

I of course volunteered to do the merch so Maura set me up with that then they started getting ready to perform and I started eating and schmoozing. Wow spellcheck recognized “schmoozing.” One of the best part of a house concert is meeting kindred spirits. I handed out quite a few Budgiedome cards. I wish I was better with names, I got particularly friendly with one couple and I can’t remember the wife’s name, her husband was Joe. Greg and Lois the hosts were wonderful. They are a long way again but I’ll be back there again to see Red Molly in June.

There was one seat available in the first row so I took it. It was a close call; there was also a seat on the nice comfy sofa in the back off to the side where Joe and his wife were sitting. It is always hard for me to turn down a comfy seat.

The Kennedys really understand how to give an acoustic show. They know the technique how to mute their guitar playing and project their voices so that the mix is right. It is quite different than playing with mics and amps. One thing that always impresses me with them is their professionalism. They come off as total hippies, and they are in spirit. They also take what they do very seriously and have honed not just their art but also their craft. They work hard at it. It is what has allowed them to stay in the business so long. That attitude has probably helped them stay married that long too.

When I’m watching the Kennedys and many other bands my mind flips between three states; Engrossed in the show, going off on tangents inspired by the show, and observing myself switching between the states. I pretty much didn’t hear any of their cover of Happytown as I was thinking about how I consider Dave Carter a kindred spirit. He was very different that me but it is like playing the same song in a different key.

After the show I hung out for quite some time. I had to since I was doing merch but of course I would have anyway. I knew my kindred spirits; at the end the only other guests left were Joe and his wife. I took on another job of photographer and took a picture of the Kennedys with our hosts with their camera. I bet that will end up on their website. I took plenty of pictures of the show on my camera. When I get the energy I’ll post them and let you see them.

The ride home was pretty easy. I stopped off at the Wendy’s drive through and then sat down in front of the TV set to watch the Met game. I had the sound off at first because I had to call Lisa. The Kennedys are playing at the Turning Point in November and I offered to take here to the show for her birthday.

The Mets are back on track. They easily beat the Cardinals 12-5. They are going to win it all this year.

Number of victories needed for the Mets to win the World Championship:
