With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
The good life, as I conceive it, is a happy life. I do not mean that if you are good you will be happy - I mean that if you are happy you will be good.
Too much sanity may be madness and the maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be.
I enjoy paying taxes. With them I buy civilization.
2002-01-24 - 1:44 a.m.
Today was the first day of class for me. I taught calculus for the first time in years. The class didn't start off well. When I checked the room I found out it was in the other building, which is a pain. I got dressed, walked over there and went in the room to find it didn't have a chalkboard. Instead it had a dry erase board. I didn't have a dry erase marker; I had chalk on me. I walked back to the main building, up to the 5th floor and asked Anna, the administrative assistant, for a marker. She gave me one and I walked back. As soon as I got back I knew I was in trouble, there was hardly any ink left in it. After 40 minutes it ran out. I had to send a student out to scrounge me a marker. The class went well other than that though. It was just review but I know some of them really need it. I tried hard to keep the interest of the rest of them. I was quite entertaining today if I have to say so myself. I was in one of my really hyper moods and was bouncing off the walls.
After class I went back to my office and went online. I was really tired by then. As usual I didn't get enough sleep and it was my third time climbing the steps up to the 5th floor.
I had fun online till 4:40 when I left to make my train. I got home, ate a quick dinner of slimfast and took a nap. Then at 6:30 I left to see Christine Lavin at the Brokerage Club. I've written about Christine many times before so I know I don't have to sell her again.
Usually when I see Christine I'm with someone, Bad Carey, Good Carey , or Lisa. This was one of the few times I saw her by myself. I got there about 20 minutes before doors and there were only a half dozen people in front of me. I didn't get to sit right by the stage though because one of them saved seats for 13 other people, I didn't think that was right but the management was the one to let them do it.
I ended up sitting with a lovely woman named Pat. We spent our time talking about music and stupidity at work. Dilbert came up quite a bit. Of course Chez was the champ at being the stupid boss. Pat's bosses come close though.
Carey asked me to take notes so I did. Here is the setlist.

2. Difficult Man: A new song I never heard before
3. Wanda and Jack: This is a song that based on a story she told at the Ram's head. It's about a couple that said they were together for 172 months, not 14 years 4 months. They celebrated their anniversary every month. I'm half expecting Carey to say, "She sung that at the Ram's Head you donut!"

6. Planet X: it had a new introduction. She called the inhabitants of Bellmore, where the venue is Bellmorons. That got a great laugh. Then she took a poll to see how many people thought that Pluto was a planet. The ayes had it by a big margin. Then she took a poll on whom though that President Bush looked goofy? That won big-time too.

18. Closing song: This was new, it was the same as the intro song but about the show being over.
After the show she gave away the CD of one of her shows on FUV. She gave it to Pat who is burning me a copy!!
I talked to her a bit after the show and thought it was pretty funny when I knew her schedule better than she did. Someone invited her to something on Feb 10 and she didn't know if she was available. I told her she was in Baltimore the night before.
No more LOTR quotes but I'll give my weight update. I've been neglecting that. I'm down to 168.5. I can see the difference now. My initial goal was 165 but I'm going to try and get down to 160.
