With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
2002-05-23 - 11:49 a.m. I've been on the new med a few days and it hasn't worked yet. I hope it kicks in by tomorrow, it will make the weekend a lot more enjoyable if I'm not worrying about my proximity to a bathroom all the time. I will also have a lot more energy and be able to sleep better. This whole thing is wearing me down. I'm going to be good today and finally take care of the deed. I'll going to the lawyer as soon as I'm finished with this. Then I'll have to tell Lisa what changes to make in it and I'll pick it up from her next week. That's will be nice because we are going to meet for lunch. Tina called me yesterday, Chez died. If you think that I've been having a rough time think about her son. In the last year he has lost both his parents and his wife. I'm worried about getting my money from him now. When can I call him without seeming like a ghoul? I guess I'll try next week. I wish I didn't have to worry about that. It is their fault though. If she had paid me when she was supposed to or he had paid me then I wouldn't have these problems now. Tina asked me if I wanted to go to the service, I said no. I feel guilty but I really need to distance myself from that family as much as possible for my own well-being. Getting involved with them was a disaster. The Brooklyn Bridge was closed yesterday because they found a suspicious package on it and were afraid of terrorism. It was a false alarm. Today the Brooklyn Borough President announced the cancellation of the Brooklyn Bridge Birthday celebration. That's a shame. I can't blame him but I don't agree with the decision either. There really are no specific threats against it. Are we to totally give up all public gatherings and celebrations? If so for how long? We are never going to totally end terrorism. Giving in to it like this will embolden the terrorists too. It gives them a feeling of power. We need to take security precautions but we also need to go about our business. It doesn't even really do any good to cancel things like that. There is nothing to stop terrorist from just blowing up the bridge in the middle of rush hour. Or suicide bombers could attack the subways. Are we going to close the subways? There will always be targets for them to find. To make matters more muddled I don't trust the government's warnings now. It is in the Bush administrations interests to make the threat worse than it is. He is trying to use it as a cover for his unpopular policy choices. Cuba has nothing to do with anything that happened but he is putting it on the list of terrorist nations. It is just to appease the Cuban community in Florida a large swing state where his brother is facing reelection. He is also using it as a distraction from the investigations of the Enron scandal and the failure of the government to heed the warnings before 9/11. He thinks by stonewalling the investigations and saying that his cooperation threatens nationally security he thinks he can get away with it. I'm afraid he is right too.
