With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
April 27, 2004 - 10:57 a.m. I should be busy grading tests and doing laundry not updating. So of course I’m not. Yesterday was my class’s chance to get revenge on me, they did their evaluations of me. I am pretty sure the school doesn’t take them that seriously. There is a major problem with them. They reward teachers who make things easy for the students and don’t push them to really learn. Comments can be very useful and if you see that the students consistently say certain things that could be actionable. The numeric ratings are just silly. After class I played bridge with Roy for the first time in more than a month. We had a lot of catching up to do. He had a lot to tell me. His family had three hospitalizations and two school acceptances since the last time we talked. The dinner and talking went well, the less said about the bridge the better. We didn’t have the cards, so we spent most of the night defending, and that is not our strong suit. I played only two hands all night, most players average six; we bid aggressively so I probably average a bit more. When I got home I had a nice talk with Jena on AIM. We talked a lot about Orson Welles, her current obsession. What I have an obsessive friend? How shocking J. I love Welles too so we had a lot to talk about. She was very amused by one thing I said. I had asked her if she had seen Heavenly Creatures. She hadn’t so I told her she should, that she reminds me of the girls in the film when they aren’t being homicidal. You should see the film too, it was directed by LOTR’s Peter Jackson.
