With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
October 29, 2006 - 9:56 a.m. I guess I’m supposed to update now. I got an extra hour’s sleep and I’m still tired. Oh well, a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do. A little after I updated yesterday Aubrey called me and wanted to know if I wanted to go to the movies. As always he didn’t want to know if I wanted to go that night, or even if i wanted to go in the afternoon, he wanted to know if i wanted to go that minute. I told him that I wasn’t even dressed and hadn’t eaten yet but I’d call him when I was ready. I did and he wanted to see a film that started in half an hour. He lives 20 minutes from me and that’s cutting it close. I asked him, “what film?” He said it’s about Africa. I asked what was it about and he said, “It’s playing in Great Neck.” It was like talking to someone who spoke a totally different language. I wanted to see him so I just said OK I’ll come over. The film was Catch a Fire. It is the true story of the radicalization of Patrick Chamusso. He was a apolitical South African whose abuse at the hands of the Apartheid regime drove him to join the ANC and become a saboteur. I found the film a bit disjointed but good. The acting was great and the issues and insights important. I can’t tell you about the ending. About two thirds of the way through the film the lights went on. LIPA told the theatre they were turning off the power in the neighborhood. We assume it was to repair storm damage. They gave us passes to the theatre and we went back to Aubrey’s house. When we were there I showed him a couple of Eric Schwartz videos. He wasn’t crazy about Get Your Jesus Off My Penis but really liked Clinton Got a Blowjob. I was surprised because Aubrey is a conservative Republican. When is wife Diana came home she felt the same way and she’s even more conservative and Republican. Aubrey asked me about a medical condition of his and I diagnosed it. Did I mention that Aubrey is a doctor? Just to make things fair I asked him to write me a prescription for nasocourt for me. I’m visiting Melissa and Yoram and their cat this week and I need it for my allergy. Yoram has a lot of dander. Aubrey gave me a shearling coat. He apparently has many extras. I didn’t get a good reason why he as extras. It needs a cleaning but it is soooo comfy. You know that I love clothes with a sensual feel. I was invited for dinner but I made an excuse to not join them. If I spend too much time there I end up refereeing their marriage. I made quite a few calls for MoveOn.org last night. Here is my official scorecard: Your Progress to Date: Voters Contacted 27: Attempted: 190. That really isn’t right. I have attempted to contact 190+27 = 217 voters. I got quite a few successful contacts last night. The best kind are the ones that know they don’t like the Republicans but don’t know the details of the race. Those are the people we are trying to get to vote. One cornerstone of the Republican success over the last 12 years is their get-out-the-vote effort. It is vital that the Democrats match it. If you live in a contested district, even if you do nothing else, volunteer on Election Day to make calls. It is really easy. All you do is got to a phone bank and call likely Democratic Voters and remind them to vote. You don’t face any hostility when you do that. Each call takes less than a minute. If you want to do more you can volunteer to drive people to the polls. I’m sorry to keep harping on this but this is IMPORTANT!. This election is so close you can really make a difference. If you can’t make calls and can’t drive go down now and stuff envelopes. Do office work. There is something you can do. As always you can follow the link at the end of this entry and volunteer with MoveOn.org. Pretty please with sugar on top.
