With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
2002-10-19 - 5:38 p.m. I actually took notes yesterday to help me write today’s entry. Lets see if they help. After updating yesterday I drove up to the Towne Crier to see Cadence Carroll and The Kennedys. Without traffic I can make the trip in about an hour, of course as I am always going there during rush hour there is always traffic. I try to leave at least 2 hours for the trip. Yesterday traffic was light and I made it in an hour and a half. That meant I got there at 7:30 for a 9:00 show. That did allow me to get a seat right by the stage. As soon as I sat down someone at the next table say, “Gordon?” it was Marneen, Lisa’s ex-boyfriend. The one time I met him was when she took him to a Kennedys show. He liked them and came to this show on his own. He brought a friend and his friend is now hooked. I really can’t figure out why the Kennedys aren’t as big as Dar. Before the show I ran into Cadence and talked to her for a while. She is from Norwalk CT, which isn’t that far away and her whole family was there. She is moving up my list of favorite performers. I loved the t-shirt she was wearing. It had a pic of the Peanuts gang trick or treating with the caption I got a rock. It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown is a classic. Cadence went on first and commented that she was afraid of spitting on the people in the front but that since at one table it was her aunt and uncle it was OK since they were family. She then said that she didn’t have an excuse to give me. I’m happy to announce she didn’t spit on me the entire show. Pete and Maura joined her for a few songs. When they did the AQ, Adorability Quotient for the stage went through the roof. I think that Murray picked out the Kennedys wardrobe; they were dressed all in brown. Pete was wearing a total Murray shirt; it was a brown print with pictures of mushrooms on it. Cadence did a few new songs, they were great. She had a few problems remember the lyrics of the ode to the seasons. It was a great song arguing against her significant other’s desire to move to a warmer climate. The other new one could alternate with evolve as her closing number. The sing-along chorus went: Have Faith I talked to the Kennedys after Cadence’s set. I told Maura that Carey had pics of her brother Gordon at the mud show at the Maryland Renaissance Fair. She told me that she used to be a wench at the Fair in upstate New York. I’d have loved to have seen that. He does this full time. He also writes plays, screenplays, and does a stand up comedy act. I’ll have to try and catch him. We talked a bit about Carey. After giving their condolences we got down to the serious business of finding new musicians for Carey to follow in Chicago. They recommended the sons of the never wrong. Pete described them as a cross between Moxy Fruvous and the funny side of Dave Carter. He didn’t know that we were Früheads so I was really impressed. I want to check them out for myself now. They are playing at Makor right near where I teach but I have class then. I’m thinking of going down the Jersey suburbs of Philly to see them. When the Kennedys got on stage Pete told how someone who didn’t know there were sitting right nearby described their music as candy ass happy folk. I’m guessing that person saw the glass as not only half empty but also dirty. Carey and I are seeing Rod Picott and David Morreale in December. That show will be just the opposite; we were considering opening an anti-depressant stand next to the CDs. Great music can be happy, sad, and everything in between.
