With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
-Steven Weinberg

The good life, as I conceive it, is a happy life. I do not mean that if you are good you will be happy - I mean that if you are happy you will be good.
-Bertrand Russell

Too much sanity may be madness and the maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be.
-Miguel de Cervantes

I enjoy paying taxes. With them I buy civilization.

O Canada

I arrived way early for everything yesterday. I was supposed to meet Melissa at noon at the entrance to Summerstage. I gave myself an hour to get there, park and walk to the park. I made it in half an hour. There was nobody there when I got there so I went for a walk. When I came back Melissa was there. There were only two people on line in front of us. There was absolutely no need to get there early. I had never been to a Summerstage event that had so few people. We were there to celebrate Canada Day. The lineup was Remy Shand, Bullfrog featuring Kid Koala, Slainte Mhath (pronounced Slawncha Va for those few of you not fluent in Gaelic), and the Arrogant Worms. We were there to see the worms but Slainte Mhath sounded pretty good too. The program described them as "The Celtic/Arcadian rave-ups of Sainte Mhath bring fiddle, bass and bagpipes too. " We were a bit disappointed because the worms didn't have their own set, they were the MCs. They did do a few songs in the beginning and songs between the other acts.

I was never that impressed with the Worms. I have a copy of Dirt and I hardly ever listen to it. They were a lot more entertaining live. They have a definite Three Stooges vibe going on. They did all "patriotic" Canadian songs. That meant we got to hear the virtues of the Beaver, and of course Rocks and Trees… and Water.

Slainte Mhath went on first and didn't disappoint. In addition to the instruments mentions in the program they also had two fiddles, drums, guitar, a bodhron, Uileann pipes and a DIGERIDOO!!!!> One of the fiddlers was a really cute young woman too. I think they were designed to get me to like them. So now I'm a fan of another Cape Breton band to go along with Ashley and Natalie. I bought their CD though I haven't listened to it yet. The last song is Attack of the Flying Slugs I really think they do everything with me in mind. The band was great when they were doing their own thing. This was their first time in the big city though. They tried way to hard to fit in and talk like an urban contemporary band. That was just embarrassing.

The other bands were R& B and a Groove band so we decided to leave after the second worms bit. Slainte Mhath did a pretty long set, over an hour so we had had enough.

We didn't run into any other Früheads. What gives? Have they given up on music? I did run into Nora from WFUV . We spent quite a long while catching up and discussing the battle over the tower. I forgot to ask her if she is going to the WFUV picnic.

After we left Melissa walked me to my car and she hopped on a bus to go shopping. I had a lot of time to kill and I ended up spending it walking. I walked west through the park to my school but it was closed. Then I walked across the park again to the Plaza Hotel to use their bathroom. Then I walked back West to get to the Subway and grab something to east. I figured walked about three miles. I had to meet Brenda at Yankee Stadium at 7:15 and I left myself an hour to get there. It actually took only a half an hour so I took another walk when I got to the Bronx.

I was supposed to meet Brenda and her sister outside the McDonalds across the street from Yankee Stadium. When I didn't see her by 7:17 I realized there was a place there I couldn't see and went over to check. That is where they were. They had looked where I was sitting and missed me. The last time I did something with Brenda she got me front row center seats to see Arlo at Carnegie Hall. I really owe her now.

I had lots of fun with her and her sister at the game even though the Mets were killed 8-0. Yankee Stadium is so much nicer than Shea. We sat in the loge, which was light, and spacious, at Shea it is dark and claustrophobic. Most importantly at Yankee Stadium you are much closer to the action.

We left the game in the bottom of the 8th when the Mets were changing pitchers. We wanted to get home at a reasonable time. Parking in Manhattan and taking the subway up to the stadium worked out pretty well. I got home in about an hour. I think I'd do that again if I were going to a weekend game.

My digestive system behaved itself all day but made up for it when I got home. I did not get much sleep last night. I always wonder how coherent I am when this happens.

Gella spent another day on her vacation slacking off. She only managed to finish 2 chapters of her novel and a movement of her symphony between parties.
