With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
September 30, 2007 - 11:08 a.m. Yesterday I went to the penultimate show of the premier season of The Madison Square Studio. The performers were KJ Denhert and Sloan Wainwright. I arranged to meet Nora at the show and saved a seat for her. The series has gotten very popular and I had to arrive early to get us chairs. There didn't seem to be as many out as usual. One nice thing is that you can move the chairs where you want and I put our down front. Once I had our space staked out I went to talk to Cadence Carroll. Cadence is Sloan's backup singer and percussionist. She is the main reason I went to the show. I love her as a solo artist but she rarely performs solo nowadays. I haven't seen her since FRFF 2006. She is a The Budgiedome regular and a friend of mine. When she saw me coming she came over to me and gave me a hug and a bumper sticker. We've had one of her bumper stickers on the Budgiedome for years. Now that we have a new tarp it has to be replaced, it looks naked without it. She only has three left but said she was happy to give it to me because she wants it to have a good home. Cadence always has a smile on her face. She just radiates happiness. She is one of those people that make you feel good whenever you see her. The world needs more people like that. The Madison Square Studio concerts always end up being social events. There is a core of fans that I'm friends with that attend the show. After Cadence ran off with Sloan to get some coffee before the show I ran into John Platt. He was a big influence on the shows booked at the series and emcees the shows when he can. While I was talking to him Richard and Vikki arrived. They somehow materialized chairs and sat right behind us. We were soon joined by Bill, another WFUV volunteer. I also ended up talking to another volunteer whose name I'm totally blanking on, and Su Polo and Meg Braun, both of whom have played the Budgiedome. KJ Denhert, I typed that right, there are no periods after the K and J; that's her name not her initials; came on first. Did I punctuate that right? She plays what she calls Urban Folk and Jazz. Some of her songs are reminiscent of Joni Mitchell others of Nora Jones. I love her stage presence. She comes across as so nice and so natural. Sloan is a virtuoso on her instrument; she has an amazing voice and knows how to use it. I am now about to shoot myself as I meant to invite both KJ and Sloan to the Budgiedome but got so involved talking to everyone else I never got around to it. No disaster; I have plenty of time before the next festival. Nora went home after the show but I stayed in the City to eat at Mandlers: the original sausage company. Annie Dinerman told me about the place. I have a passion for sausages so this place was meant for me. There is a wealth of choices on the menu so I decided on the sampler. I had Bratwurst, Beef, Andouille, and Krainerwurst. They were all great. They also have a mustard bar with all different kinds of mustard. So I had lots of variety. I'll be back there again. Something tells me that Chris will want to join me. I have to run now. After 161 games the Mets are tied for first place. The entire season comes down to today's game. Wish us luck. The Batnoses are in second place 5 points out of first. It will take a miracle for us to win.
