With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
August 18, 2009 - 1:14 a.m. What were today's adventures? Or should I say misadventures? You can decide for yourself. We are in the midst of the first official heat wave of the summer and I had no air conditioner so today like Popeye I said, "That's all I can stands and I can't stands no more!" I ate my spinach, well OK, omelet and went on my quest for coolness. I decided to not worry that I wasted almost a year and didn't buy an AC earlier. I decided to not worry that I haven't researched the best buy. I hopped in my car and went to Best Buy vowing to get the best deal I could get there. One problem. When I got there they only had once AC and it was too small for the living room and too big for the bedroom. To top it off I had to pay $2.75 to park in the mall lot to find that out. I'm guessing that shocks most of you, anyone who doesn't live in New York City. They have to charge for parking, otherwise commuters would fill the lot each day because it is near the subway. I could have gone out on the Island but this was so close and I didn't want to waste the time or gas getting there. When I was in the store Alan called. After talking about what he called about it I asked him if he knew a good place to buy an AC. He had just heard on the radio that P.C. Richard was having a sale so I hopped in my car and drove back to my old hood where I knew they had a store. I quickly bought the two I wanted. Was the price the best? Was the quality the best? I don't know, but I know I have air conditioners. Earlier in the day I called my Super and left a message saying that I'd need help getting the ACs up to my room and installing them. After I bought them I called and left a message that I was on my way home. When I got home I called and left a message that I'm back and ready to have them brought up to my room and installed. Some time later he finally called back. He had no idea what I wanted. He told me it was too late to do anything and that I'd have to wait till tomorrow morning. After banging my head against the wall for a while I realized that the bedroom unit was small enough for me to handle myself so I called him back and asked for him to leave out the dolly so I could bring it up myself. My secret plan was to race down there and ask whoever left the dolly out to come up and install it. The elevator was too slow though and I missed it. I got the unit to my room with no problem. It was tough getting out of the box but I managed. I did the assembly with no trouble. It was light enough to get up in the window by myself. Then I realized that something was wrong and it would never sit there by itself. I don't know what's wrong. I think it has to do with how the window is made. There's a lip on the sill that the AC has to go over. I don't know how to get around it. Everyone in the building has one so I'm sure there is a standard solution and I'll just have to wait for the handyman to do it tomorrow. I feel like Tantalus now. The AC is there in my bedroom but I can't use it and it is still 81° and humid. It won't get that much cooler tonight. My only solace is that this will be my last night in a sweat box. When the AC was in my window I noticed it was covered with blood. I had cut my finger lifting it without even realizing it. I had to grab the Fantastic to get the blood off. Something similar happened yesterday. I found blood on my leg as I was pulling out of the Trader Joe's parking lot. It came not from my leg but from my finger. I am guessing it was a paper cut. I didn't feel when I got that either. My biggest concern was getting the blood out of my shorts. As soon as I got home I cleaned it with seltzer, I don't have club soda. It apparently did the trick. I then threw it in the wash I was doing anyway and they look fine. Tonight I went to see Anthony da Costa at the The Living Room. He is playing every Monday in August. When I got there I was not surprised to find Elisa. I was surprised to find Howard. He's a WFUV phone volunteer. He's one of my best friends there and I had never seen him at an Anthony show before. He lives up in Anthony's area of Upper Westchester and had only seen him up there before. I have seen Anthony there but mainly see him closer to the City. Not surprisingly at all I also saw Dennis, Anthony's father. I sat with him at the table next to Howard's. Anthony had planned on having guest musicians but they all had to cancel so this was a totally solo show. No matter, Anthony can pt on a great show all by his lonesome. He even put me in the lyrics of one of the songs. According to Anthony I am now a Beatle. After the show I hung out with Anthony and Dennis for a bit and showed Anthony where to get a good slice of pizza in the neighborhood. I then hopped on the subway and returned to my still sultry abode. I'm using the heavy artillery now to keep cool. I keep my neck buddies in the fridge and wear one of them as a headband and the other as a bandana around my neck. I don't have a photo of my own but here is a photo from the neck buddy website. Click on it for a link to the site. I love my post FRFF ratings bump. I always get more readers after the festival. I wonder what my Gentle Readers make up Wise Madness. The content varies so much from entry to entry. Are my music friends bored by the details of my life? Are my non music friends bored by the endless tales of contest? Is everyone annoyed by my philosophical musings? Do you sometimes want to strangle me with my camera strap? Do you wish I was as third as funny as I think I am? Are you perplexed that anyone could spend so much time deconstructing his own writing? "What sort of ego does it take to put in public view your life? Why does he keep trying to figure out what I'm thinking? I already know what I'm thinking." I could go on like that for hours but I am pretty sure I'm the only one that would find that amusing. On the other hand it is now 1:12 AM and still 80°. How long before it cools off enough for me to fall asleep? Tonight I think I might actually sleep with a fresh neck buddy on. Whatever it takes I'll do it after I post this. I've had enough for one evening and there are cooler places in the apartment then in front of the computer.
