With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
July 10, 2006 - 11:28 a.m. Wow most of you read my last entry late. I thought nobody was going to read it now I see that lots of people did. That’s good. I liked that one. It wasn’t planned or elaborate but it was all me. This entry might be somebody else. I’m not sure whom; maybe Bud Selig. My digestive system has not been in good shape recently. I’m pretty much in constant pain, especially when I move. I’ve been able to eat but I get nervous each time I do. OK enough complaining. Yesterday I went to the Met game, that is pretty much always a good thing. I planned on taking the 11:52 train but that plan hit a snag. While I was on the platform at 11:50 I realized I didn’t have my ticket to the game. I ran home, got my ticket and made it back to the station in time for the 12:22. Oh yes; on the way home Penny called me to tell me that I hadn’t left out my mother’s pills. So I took care of that too. It really isn’t easy not having a brain. One benefit of taking the later train is that Larry was on it so I had company on the ride in. That was the start of the day being very good. The weather was absolutely perfect. It was a day where you appreciate the pastoral nature of baseball; a game played where the blue sky meets the green grass. The game was exciting. The Mets went ahead 3-0, then blew the lead and fell behind 5-3. Just when things looked bleakest for the Amazins they scored a run, had two men on base and everyone’s favorite player, David Wright, hit a 3-run-homerun in the bottom of the eighth. The chants of ”MVP” started immediately. He doesn’t really deserve the award but he is a helluva ballplayer. One of these days I should write down all the things that Alan, Larry, and I, talk about at a game. We have some very weird conversation. That’s half the fun. We are also very geeky. Politics usually works its way in there too. I couldn’t get my mother to take a walk yesterday. Today I am going to have to really push her. She went to bed really early too. Now that makes things easier on me but it isn’t what I want. I took advantage of the free time to play Bridge Base online. Larry was there so I got to play with my bridge guru. It was nice to play with a partner much better than myself. We did OK, we came in eighth in a tournament, quite a bit above average. I also played with pickup partners. Those games are strange. Everyone just plays standard bridge, not many conventions. To make it more fun you are never really sure what conventions your partner is playing. You have to follow the KISS principle, Keep It Simple Stupid. The level of play is not very high so I did well by simply not making mistakes. Wow, I was about to get off the computer. I forgot I was writing this. Does anyone have any extra brain they can spare?
