With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
May 31, 2008 - 11:38 a.m. I’m sitting down at the computer and I have no idea what I’m going to write about. I had some ideas but they are MIA. It is really hard not having a brain. I pretty much did nothing yesterday so I can’t write about that. Well I did have a really long, good conversation with LORi. We kept saying “this would make a good entry.” Maybe I can remember one of those things. Yeah right. I have a ridiculous motive for updating today. If 30 people read Wise Madness today it will be the highest rated month in the past year. Now I could exploit that and tell people to make sure to read it today but that would be artificial. I didn’t do that when the old record was set. I don’t want people just clicking on the page and not reading it. The record doesn’t matter anyway. It does matter that the ratings are up though. For a while I was afraid I was losing all my readers. I went from 676 readers in July to only 497 in December. I really like my last two entries Recycling is a Virtue, and When Kafka was the Range (That's the title of a Dave's True Story song). They are both windows into my thought processes. Like Jurgen there is nothing I enjoy more than observing the workings of my own brain. When you read my entries what you are doing is observing me observing the workings of my own brain. What you are doing now is observing me observing you observing me observing the workings of my brain. If you can understand that last sentence you are well on your way of understanding me and that's the entire point of my keeping a diary. As you might have noticed I enjoy my use of language. In my continued effort to recycle I'm going to give here a couple of things I wrote recently in other places that I particularly liked. In my letter to Rita Houston at WFUV I said: Discovering WFUV was like the scene in Grapes of Wrath where after crossing the desert the Joads see opening before them the lush fields of California. Now it is more like going from a generic shopping mall to a really cool shopping mall. The other one was as part of a meme about quotes. In the course of which I came up with an epigram that caught my fancy. There is no god so man was forced to invent artists and scientists to explain the universe and guide us to its wonders. I tend to think in epigrams. I'd rather thinking candygrams. Do you know what I haven’t written about in a long time? My rotisserie baseball team. The Nashional Batnoses have been mired near the cellar most of the season but are now making their move. I knew this would happen. I had a lot of injuries and a lot of underperforming players, especially the pitchers. I made one great waiver pick up, Gavin Floyd; He is 5-3 with a 3.22 ERA. Right now I’m in eighth place in a twelve team league but in good position to move up significantly. For the week I’m in first place by 11 points. If I hold on it will be my first weekly win. I don’t think I ever listed my entire roster. I know I started to once but I don’t think I ever finished it. Now you know who to root for. Should I open a Batnose Team Store and sell merch? How big and loyal is the Batnose fan base? Tonight I'm off to see Nellie McKay at Chris's favorite venue, The Zipper Factory. I was going to say that means I'll have something to write about tomorrow but I never know how to write about concerts. Lets root for something weird to happen so I won't have trouble writing my next entry.
