With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
2002-10-17 - 4:25 p.m. I’m updating from school again. One of my students is taking a make up test while I write this. I do such a good job proctoring. I was ready to kill another student last night. I have repeatedly told them not to ask me questions like, “how many questions will be on the test?” I am trying to get the to think about the subject matter not the details of the test. Last night someone asked the question and I gave my usual reply, “enough questions to fill the time.” A few minutes later someone else asked the same question. I should point out that I gave the test yesterday. First we went over the homework then I gave the test. He asked this right before I handed out the test. He was going to find out how many questions there were in a couple of minutes anyway. I wonder if he just asked it to annoy me. I gave them an hour and ten minutes to take the test even though I knew that most people would be finished in less than 50 minutes. I don’t want them to feel time pressured. I told the class that if they finished early that they could leave but they had to be back by the time the test was over since I was going to lecture then. With about 10 minutes to go on the test people started filtering back into the room. Some people were still taking the test so I hoped they’d realize to be quiet. Most did but that same student started talking to someone. I nicely pointed out that people were still taking the test and that he should stop talking. He lowered his voice a bit and kept talking. I told him to stop. He still kept talking. I told him to stop talking and he said, “I’m not talking.” Then continued to talk. I finally told him to get out. That finally sunk in. He didn’t get out but he went back to his seat and stopped talking. This is the behavior more fitting for someone in the terrible twos than in college. I really wish the school would reconsider the rule against beheading students. After class I relaxed by calling Stacey. Talking to her always does wonders for my ego. Of course like far to many of my friends her ego is the one that needs the boosting. I might go see Lamya at the Cutting Room tonight. I had never heard of her till yesterday when WFUV played her music. They were giving away 10 pairs of tickets to the show but I guess I called to late, I haven’t heard from them. She appeared live in the studio today and I really liked her so I might go anyway. Tonight I’m giving another test. This one should be fairly easy but you never know. There are two DVN questions on it.
