With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
-Steven Weinberg

The good life, as I conceive it, is a happy life. I do not mean that if you are good you will be happy - I mean that if you are happy you will be good.
-Bertrand Russell

Too much sanity may be madness and the maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be.
-Miguel de Cervantes

The only way to find the limits of the possible is by going past them into the impossible.
-Arthur C. Clarke

It's not a tax, it's a user fee.

Have you been wondering where I've been? I had another Crohn's disease attack. This one was brought on by raisons. I am a victim of the imp of the perverse. Raisons have never bothered me before but I knew they had the potential. I just wanted to get some fruit in my diet and I love raisons. I ate the raisons Thursday night and the attack started Friday morning. It passed last night between 12:50 AM and 1:20.

On the bright side my arm is elbow is much better. Of course I had a setback when I reached for the phone last night. I still have to be careful. I am going to wear the sling whenever possible. Good thing Chris is driving today. Yes I'm insane and I'm going to go through with my full baseball celebration. First we are off to Ringwood NJ to see Crooked Still then off to Bodles Opera House in Chester NY to see Red Molly, Anthony da Costa is the opener. I was supposed to see Anthony's CD release party last night but I couldn't make it. I was going to go even though I was sick then I took a bath to see if that could help me straighten my arm out. When I got out I almost collapsed. I could barely dry myself. I had to get to my bed and collapse. I figured after that it was really stupid to attempt to go out. I'm insane, I'm not stupid.

Another bright side, my weight is down to 176.5 lbs. My guess is that when I get rehydrated I'll be up to 179 lbs or so.

Now for the entry I meant to write on Friday morning. It struck me how much better I'm being for the environment since I moved out of my house and into my apartment. I only use my cars on to drive to concerts out of the City and little shopping trips. I don't have air conditioning yet and have been managing fine with just my fan. Now it's been a cool summer but I still would have been using it in my house. My room was unbearably hot. I do have fans running non stop but they use far less electricity. It's been in the eighties the last few days and it wasn't that bad. I'm glad I got the ice trays, ice water really helped. Now I'm not saying that everyone should live in an urban apartment near mass transit but it should be public policy to encourage it. There is an ad on the subway that says that New York City produces 75% less carbon per capita than the average American. If we could get the country living like that we'd way exceed the Kyoto goals. The problem is that individuals don't pay the costs of the carbon they produce, we all do collectively. That makes it somebody else's problem. One day we will have a carbon tax even if we have to call it by another name. How about a climate abuse use fee? It really is a user fee, not a tax. Each time we produce carbon we are taking something of value from the commons. We should have to pay for that.

Enough preaching. Today is my birthday. I'm 52. I always look for reasons to like my age. Last year I was 51, 17×3; 17 is my favorite number. 52 is good because it is the number of cards in a deck. Next year I might have to settle for it being a prime. I can say I'm in the prime of life.

For the first time since I joined not one person signed my FHDC birthday card. That's sad. It isn't because nobody likes me it's because the site is pretty much dead. I miss it.

I did get lots of birthday greetings on Facebook. Each one makes me smile. I only got two cards in the mail but dozens of online greetings. I'm a 21st century kind of guy.

I better get going. Chris is picking me up in an hour and I haven't showered or eaten. Yes I'm going to actually eat. I just have to decide what.

Farewell wherever you may fare till your eyries receive you at your journey's end.

That's the polite thing to say among eagles.
