When they burn books, they will, in the end, burn human beings

-Heinrich Heine

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
-Steven Weinberg

The good life, as I conceive it, is a happy life. I do not mean that if you are good you will be happy - I mean that if you are happy you will be good.
-Bertrand Russell

Too much sanity may be madness and the maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be.
-Miguel de Cervantes

Anais Nin ...

I actually have done a few things since my last update so instead of being confessional or analytic or political it is going to simply be expository. It even has pictures and a video.

Wednesday night I went to see Anaïs Mitchell at Rockwood Music Hall. I thought the show was at 9 pm but I checked at 6:40 and saw it as at 8. I hopped in my car and drove right over there. The nice thing is that I can always get parking in that area and it is only a 20 minute drive.

I got there early enough to see most of the singer on before her. I won't mention her name. She has a talent and a big voice but I don't like what she does with it.

Anaïs stopped by to say hi to me before the show. The guy sitting next to me is also a big fan and she said, "I see all the usual suspects are here."

Want to hear a new song from her opera Hadiestown? of course you do. I took a video so you could.

After the show I talked to her about putting the opera on in New York. I have three ideas on where to stage it. If one of them works out I'll let you know.

Anaïs is one of my favorite photographic subjects. For some reason her pictures always come out great. It is almost impossible to get good pics in Rockwood because the light is dim and very red. Look how these came out? I don't know how I got the color balance so good.

I'm going to use one of the headshots on her Wikipedia page. I took the current one at Clearwater a few years ago when she was still blonde. I have to keep up with the times.

Today I went to the Met game. Guess what they won again? That makes six in a row, their best streak of the year. Once again Alan left early and I moved down to the good seats.

The fans are getting less negative but there are still some that overreact to every setback. If I were like that I don't think I could enjoy the game.

Do you know what I think I forgot to write about? After all my bitchin' about the Knicks needing to fire Isiah Thomas, did I ever mention that they did? They have a new president and a new head coach and seem to be moving in the right direction. They aren't trying to win right away, they know it will take time to rebuild the team. Look out in two years when LeBron James and Dwayne Wade become free agents. Their strategy is to get below salary cap by then so they can sign one of them. My money is on them signing LeBron. He is the best player in the league.

Tomorrow I have to see the lawyer I hired to help me buy the coop. I am going to sign the contract with him.

Tonight I saw Hellboy. How come nobody told me how good it was? I should have seen that in a theatre.

Jessica paid me the nicest compliment the other day. She liked the speech I wrote and said I should send it to Obama. Guess what? I did. When I did I found so many mistakes that I had to edit out. I then went back and fixed it on Wise Madness. If you want to read the corrected version here it is; Confessions of a Liberal.

After sending that to Obama I got a call from his campaign this morning. It wasn't asking me to join his speech writing staff. They wanted my money. I got the call at 8:45 you are never supposed to make calls like that so early. Then after talking to me for a while he called me "ma'am" I told him that she be "mr." and that I was a man. Know what his reaction was? He just hung up on me. They really need to train their volunteers better.

OK that's it for tonight. This is a lot less dramatic than my recent entries. I have to keep you guessing.
