With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
-Steven Weinberg

The good life, as I conceive it, is a happy life. I do not mean that if you are good you will be happy - I mean that if you are happy you will be good.
-Bertrand Russell

Too much sanity may be madness and the maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be.
-Miguel de Cervantes

I enjoy paying taxes. With them I buy civilization.

Blowin' in the Wind

"A dog ate my homework." Is that an excuse my student gave me? No it's a bit better than the excuse I have to give my school. I was at the LIRR station yesterday waiting for the train. I was bringing my grades into school. I had a computer printout of the grade book and a bubble sheet with the official grades. I had them in a folder instead of my briefcase because I didn't want to carry around my briefcase afterwards. I it down for a second and a gust of wind came up and blew the papers away. I was able to recover the printout but the bubble sheet blew on the tracks. The train was coming in a couple of minutes and there was no way I was going to jump down and get them. When I got to school Anna the administrative assistant wasn't there so I left the printout and an explanation of what happened on her desk. I hope they don't shoot me.

After that I hung around in my office for a bit. I got a few things accomplished even. I called up Robin and made arrangements for meeting her and her family on Saturday. Tim gave me directions how to get there and I printout out a map on the computer.

Then I called Carey up and got the bonus of not having to pay for it. Long distance calls are my one perk from school.

After that I went down to Irving Plaza to try and sell my Dan Bern tickets. There weren't that many people there when I got there so I decided to grab a bite then come back. As I was leaving I ran into Phyllis. She is a big Dan Bern fan and does the merch for most of the Celtic bands when they play in New York. I stopped and talked with her and asked her to keep her ears open for people needing tickets.

When I came back she hadn't heard anything but more people were there and I found somebody to buy the tickets just walking down the line. I hung out with Phyllis and Heather for a while on line. I always have fun talking to them.

I was going to check out the Chocolate Bar afterwards but my stomach decided to act up and I went straight home. I really have to check it out though, maybe tonight.

And now for something completely different:

Enron employees have just admitted to causing blackouts in California this summer to drive up the prices. There are an incredible number of ex-Enron employees in the government now. Bush payed them back for their financial support. Why aren't people shouting for their heads? They are all either crooks or people who didn't realize that they were working for a criminal organization. Either way they aren't the people you want running your government. Of course Bush has no problem with them.

It is now coming out that there were warnings about the Bin Laden planning a hijacking before 9/11. Nothing seems to have been done about it. VP Chaney is saying that it is unpatriotic to want to investigate why nothing was done. Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.
