With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
August 16, 2003 - 4:44 p.m. I’m updating late today. I was busy this morning talking to Carey then preparing the track lists for CDs that Jason made for me of Richard Thompson’s and Arlo Guthrie’s sets at FRFF. Now I’m listening to Patty Larkin. Last night I went to see We’re About 9 and Deirdre Flint at the Minstrel Coffeehouse. It was the easiest drive I ever had there. Most people didn’t go to work yesterday so there wasn’t the usual rush hour traffic. I figured I’d eat at the Burger King in Morristown that is on the way. I have some coupons for free whoppers. I got them because I had trouble with them last time I went to the Minstrel. I show them the coupon that clearly says “good at any Burger King” on it and they wouldn’t accept it. Now I’ll have to write another letter to BK. I’m sure they will let that franchise owner have it. I’ll probably get more coupons from them too. I ended up walking out of that BK of course and ate at the dinner across the street. More expensive of course but the food was really good and a good value. I had the blackened chicken. I love that Cajun stuff. I made it hotter by putting on Tabasco sauce. I had made such good time I got to the venue about an hour early. They were still doing sound check but they let me put stuff down to save a seat. Before I even got inside I ran into Brian in the parking lot. We talked for a bit about Carey and the band’s travail’s the last few days. They weren’t caught in the blackout but all their stuff was. Brian and Katie were in Massachusetts and their stuff was in Brooklyn. Their van broke down so they didn’t have time to go to Brooklyn to pick it up. The place must be jinxed for them. Last time they were there they were so late that instead of opening for Vance Gilbert they “middled” for him. When I got inside I saw Deirdre. It seems that I’m now a hug hello for her. Yay for Deirdrehugs. Yes it was one those shows that I went to alone and the only people that really knew me were the performers. Another manifestation of my geeknocity. Deirdre was giving out bumper stickers that said “Honk if you were dissed by the boob fairy.” I of course immediately put it on my car. Have I mentioned that I finally got around to decorating it? I put on stickers from DVN, Cadence Carroll, Carbon Leaf, and one more that for the life of me I can’t remember. I’ll let you know tomorrow. I still have to put on WFUV and disappear fear. Deirdre was the opening act and knocked the crowd dead. She got an incredible ovation when it was over and got to do an encore. They have great crowds at the Minstrel. WA9 seemed to be channeling DVN much of the evening. ADD was the word for the day. One rude person complained about them talking to much and not singing. Brian pointed out that they had already done more songs than Vance did his entire set. Yay Brian. After the show I was talking to WA9 again and I found out that Brian thought that I was related to Carey. There were too many other people waiting to talk to him for me to really pursue this. I want to know what he thought our relationship was? Did he think I was her father? That would just be creepy. I’ve been trying to explain calculus to Emilie by frumessage. This was brought on my current screen name ∫3x²dx=x³+C. I used that because I was so happy that I figured out how to make an integral sign J
