With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
-Steven Weinberg

The good life, as I conceive it, is a happy life. I do not mean that if you are good you will be happy - I mean that if you are happy you will be good.
-Bertrand Russell

Too much sanity may be madness and the maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be.
-Miguel de Cervantes

I enjoy paying taxes. With them I buy civilization.

Revenge of the Merge

It's Saturday morning and I'm updating. Those of you paying attention will know that's not a good thing. It means that I'm still having health problems and I'm up too early. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

After I updated yesterday I drove my mother to the bus depot. She and my sister Alison are going to my cousin Elaina's graduation party. I'd have actually liked to have gone. I hadn't seen Elaina for about 13 years before this year but I saw her a few times this year and I really like her. She's a definite us.

The reason I couldn't go is because I am down in Baltimore for Robbiecon. The other attendees are Carey, Shelly, and Neal. We are all staying at the palatial Hotel Carey Faerie.

The trip down here usually takes me about 4 hours. It usually isn't the start of Memorial Day weekend though. I paid for my hubris, bragging about beating the Merge last time I visited. This time it beat me. I also had a problem in Delaware, aka the Hellmouth. It's a 200-mile trip and only 19 of them are in Delaware, it should not take half the time.

I got here at 5 O'clock instead of 3:30 but it really wasn't a problem. After the usual exchange of gifts we were off to Annapolis to see EFO at the Rams Head. Notice I didn't write "Ram's Head" like I did yesterday. Apparently the owners have more problems with punctuation than I do. They sometimes even write is as one word "Ramshead." We found it with no problem. Unlike the Birchmere it doesn't hide. We walked a bit in Annapolis first and went to our favorite Irish store where everybody but me loaded up on chocolate. We then went to eat at an Irish Pub. The food was excellent and we had a fun waitress. She made Shelly and myself pout before she would bring us water.

After dinner on the way back to the Rams Head Carey and I noticed that our favorite weird musical instrument store seemed to be gone. We had been looking forward to returning there since last fall when we saw Christine Lavin there. We had plans to buy slide whistles and a trombone kazoo. We are going back to Annapolis today and we'll take another look for the store. Perhaps we were wrong about its location. Maybe it just relocated. I hope it still exists.

Unlike last year I did not have an abscess this year and was able to stay awake for the show. It was a typical fun EFO concert. They performed all my favorites and many songs I hadn't heard before. As usual I'll leave the details of the show to those who took notes and have working memories.

We had a few problems finding our way out of the garage and back to the highway, but we didn't actually get lost. We got back home without a problem and hit our respective sacks. As has been happening a lot recently I didn't actually get much sleep. I'm going to try and get some more now, wish me luck.
