With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
-Steven Weinberg

The good life, as I conceive it, is a happy life. I do not mean that if you are good you will be happy - I mean that if you are happy you will be good.
-Bertrand Russell

Too much sanity may be madness and the maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be.
-Miguel de Cervantes

I enjoy paying taxes. With them I buy civilization.

So Happy Together

Last night I went to see The Kennedys and Sam Shaber at the Living Room. I’ll be seeing a lot of both of them this month. They will be playing there every Wednesday this month. I am also seeing The Kennedys at the Outpost in the Burbs and the Appel Farm Festival. I told them they’d be sick of me by the end of the month.

I gave myself some treats before the show. I stopped at Russ and Daughters for halvah then ate dinner at Katz’s Deli. When I got to the Living Room I saw that they didn’t have the blackboard with the acts on it out on the sidewalk. I got worried that I had the day or time wrong. My fears were allayed when I noticed that the two people that passed me on the street while I was worrying about that were Pete and Maura. We talked out on the street till a couple of minutes before the show was supposed to start. Good thing that one of us looked at our watch.

It was a very small crowd, the only other regular there was Sue from WFUV Actually there are two Sues that volunteer at FUV. I’ll call this one IDD Sue, she’s on the Idiot’s Delight Digest.

When the show started there just the two of us and a musician friend of the Kennedys. Late a couple if music industry friends of Pete and Maura showed up. I hope they get a bigger crowd next week.

I haven’t seen Pete and Maura since January and I needed the fix. The did a lot of new songs all of which rocked. They seem to be exploring some new styles. One of the songs was reminiscent of Mary Ford and Les Paul. Raise your hand if you know who I’m talking about.

I’ve talked before about how good the Kennedys’ music makes me feel. I was going to say that it is good for the soul but isn’t that a bit spiritual for me? I could say it helps my psyche but that sounds like psychobabble. How can a died in the wool materialist put this? They make me happy. When I’m listening to the music I can feel my stress levels go down. I relax. I find it hard to believe any drug could be as effective.

Sam Shaber followed and didn’t disappoint. I was particularly happy when she did a song Jenny Devoeted about Jenny Devoe a friend of My Favorite.

My good mood was almost shattered when I got home. The Nashional Batnoses had a very rough day, the pitching and hitting were both awful. I knew they weren’t going to be in first place in the morning. I was happy to find that we are still in second and only 1.5 points out of first. We’ll get it back today.
