With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
2002-01-17 - 12:45 a.m. Exciting times around here. Yesterday my father got out of rehab and today I saw Leah for the first time in 11 months. I got up early and left hear around 9 AM so I could spend as much time as possible with her. We only had till 2:30. The ride down there went pretty smoothly. I didn't hit any bad traffic and I didn't get lost. I got there at 11:45. First thing I got a long overdue Leah hug. Then came the usual exchange of presents. Leah got her overdue Didgeridoo. She did the best job anyone I've heard getting a sound out of it the first shot. When I try it always comes out sounding like a lovesick moose. Maybe I should try that next time I'm at Carey's , I'll get the moose distracted then… OK back to earth. I couldn't find any quick breakfasts on the road so I was starving when I got there. I suggested that we head off for lunch. We had our usual debate where to eat, Leah likes exotic food and my tastes are quite pedestrian. I always give in but I have to have something that I can actually eat. We ended up going to the same Chinese restaurant that she went to with Lawrence. I ordered the duck, my favorite, and the waiter asked me if I ever had it before there. I said no. He told me that it had the skin and bones on it and wanted to know if I still wanted it. I have never heard of it being served without the skin and bones. The skin is the bets part of a duck. I have no idea what that was about. The duck was great and the company even better. We had our usual wide range of conversation topics. We both have a talent for going off in unexpected tangents. After lunch we went crown shopping. Leah wanted to get one for the Queen of Frühead Porn. We found a nice tiara at a party store along with some other fun things. Unfortunately I think that Leah took them back to her house instead of leaving them with me where they belong. I'll have to check with her and look in my car. After that it was time for me to get Leah back home. We didn't have nearly enough time together. I did manage to find something I had bought for her and kept in my car for months before she had to go. I got one final Leahhug and was back on the road home. I hit surprisingly little traffic coming home even though I hit NYC at 5 O'clock, the height of rush hour. I don't get it. It would usually take me 2 hours to get home from the Goethals Bridge at that time of day, today it took an hour. I'm not complaining of course. Tonight I took it easy, I just watched TV, read LOTR, and talked to Carey. Amazingly I haven't been online yet today. I usually write this while online but I decided today to write it before signing on so there'd be less distractions and I'd finish it faster. I was thinking of writing a rant but I'll just say it quick. How do they look themselves in the mirror? With everything that happened and the added money that is needed to pay for security and rebuilding all the president and Governor Pataki can talk about is lowering taxes, taxes primarily on the rich. Where are they going to get the money to do this with tax revenues falling? The poor of course. The Republican's answer to all problems is to take money from the poor and give it to the rich. I read quite a bit of LOTR today, I'm up to The stairs of Cirith Ungol Faramir one of my favorite secondary characters has just entered the scene. This is an exchange between him and Sam. 'Ah well, sir,' said Sam, 'you said my master had an elvish air; and that was good and true. But I can say this: you have an air too, sir, that reminds me of, of - well, Gandalf, of wizards.' 'Maybe,' said Faramir. 'Maybe you discern from far away the air of Númenor.'
