With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
2002-10-30 - 3:16 p.m. It seems that I’m a fun person. Two people at WFUV said I was fun in the last 24 hours. One was disappointed I wouldn’t be there Halloween night when she’d be volunteering next. The other was a Fordham student answering phones who said I was fun to work with. I knew there was a reason I liked volunteering. There isn’t much else to report, I did a quickie this morning. I worked from 6 AM till 10:30 AM then I headed down to school. I talked to Kat Seelig, I’m not sure how to spell her last name, the morning sports reporter for the first time. She’s a fun kid, we talked sports and sports fans. She would be a great match for Alan. She’s hardcore. She totally understands him leaving Aubrey’s wedding early to catch the second half of the Jet game. Yesterday I found out that the Michael, the guy sitting behind me, was the director of the John Harms center. Actually I was reminded of it since I had heard it before, he volunteers regularly. FUV is giving away tickets to see Richard Thompson there on Saturday as a premium for a hefty pledge. It includes a meet in greet with RT. I asked Michael if Carey and I could meet RT too, he said he couldn’t promise anything but we should wait after the show and he could probably arrange it. I’m so excited, we’ll get to ask him about his secret identity as Hoopoe the Clown. My first class went strangely today. I tried to go over the homework quickly but it seemed to take forever. That lead to my not finishing even one chapter so I didn’t assign any homework. We are starting my favorite topic, graphing. We’ll have to see if the pick it up. I’m going to go slowly and try to make sure they do. I blanked on Julianne Welby’s, Co-host of the FUV morning show’s, last name the other day. It isn’t surprising, and not because I always blank on names. I have always known radio people by their first name or nickname. This isn’t because I know the ones at FUV personally, It’s always been that way. To me it was always Shep, Scottso, Zach, Alison, Pete, and Vin. Never Jean Shepherd, Scott Muni, Pat Zacherly, Alison Steele, Pete Fornatele, and Vin Scelsa. The only exception I can think of is Peter Schickele and I knew him as a composer before I knew him on the radio. There is something personal about radio, the people on it are people we are letting into our homes. We see the sets on TV but on radio they could just be talking to us from across the room.
