With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
-Steven Weinberg

The good life, as I conceive it, is a happy life. I do not mean that if you are good you will be happy - I mean that if you are happy you will be good.
-Bertrand Russell

Too much sanity may be madness and the maddest of all, to see life as it is and not as it should be.
-Miguel de Cervantes

I enjoy paying taxes. With them I buy civilization.

Getting to the Point

I always dread writing these entries then enjoy it once I start. This one had to be about a weekend so there was more dread and they’ll be more enjoyment.

On Saturday morning my first stop was picking up Gella at her father’s house in Brooklyn. That went without a hitch. It was even right on the way. That was about the last traveling I had that went smoothly.

From there we were off to Ventnor to pick up Leah. I got very involved talking to Gella and missed the exit for the Garden State parkway, exit 11 and didn’t notice it till I got to exit 8. That’s bad. That meant I had to find my way across NJ back to the GS Parkway (Gella says that stands for Gella Solomon Parkway).

Leah was waiting outside when we got to her house and we started off for Philly. We called the Wonderful Lori from the car and she told us to meet them at the Point instead of going to her house first. She gave us directions there.

I didn’t actually get lost on the way there but I thought I did. I had to pull over and look at the map to make sure I was going right.

When we got to Bryn Mawr we drove right past the Point and had to call Lori again to confirm that. We finally found it and Steve came with me to show me the parking lot. When I got inside we found that Lori, Lawrence , and the rest had found us seats.

The first thing we did after we took our seats was to find Bernie and have him give Carey a call on Leah’s cell phone. That was poor timing, the first thing we should have done was call Leah’s father. That meant that when Bernie was finished Leah had to hang up and no one else had a chance to talk to Carey.

As usual I’ll leave the report of the show to other. Lawrence took notes so it’s his job to give the set lists.

I talked to Mike Errico before the show and told him I was friends with Betsy and Erica. He said, “The cheesecake girls?” When Paul saw him talking to us he said, “you know these guys too? We’re infamous.

For the second set Leah, Gella, Lawrence, and myself moved over to the center. Leah had brought a list of Spanish phrases to scream out but ended up using it to bribe Bernie into calling on her during the second show.

The Point actually expanded their menu so I had something to eat, a roast beef and swiss melt. That was good as I had forgotten to eat anything all day except for a hot dog that Leah grabbed for me when I got gas right before the show.

In the second show DVN was totally out of control which is how I like them. They somehow became obsessed with Gay Muppets. They didn’t sing as many songs as the first show but there were more laughs.

Mike Errico was even better than I remembered him. He lives in New York but somehow I can never make his shows here. I’m going to have to try and remedy that.

After the show we all went back to Lori’s. We stayed up and talked for a while but not too long. We did get the tour of the house. It was the first time we had seen it since the remodeling was done.

We had hoped to get up early enough on Sunday to see Dar but we didn’t manage that. So we just sat around and talked for longer than we should have. Leah was supposed to be back at three and didn’t leave till two.

I once again got lost driving back to her house. We called her father and told him we’d be late and he said that it was OK, we could get there later. That left us time to get lunch. Gella wanted to eat at Friendly’s which always works for me. I love it.

When we got back to Leah’s house we went inside and I got to meet The Cheat, her rat. Gella had never met her parrot Jade so they had to be introduced too. Leah showed us her new guitar and when Gella mentioned that she wanted to learn guitar Leah lent her, her old one. Leah is good people. Have I mentioned that?

I actually managed to drive Gella back to school without making any wrong turns. Going home I didn’t go the best way but that meant I avoided a traffic jam so I won’t count it as getting lost.

I better run now. I have to get to school soon and I haven’t showered yet. The thing about weekends like this is that I enjoy the time sitting around and the time driving as much as I enjoy the shows. I love road trips with good company. The only thing that was missing was Carey. I miss her so much, especially when I’m seeing DVN. There are times that I just need to look over at her and to know that she’ll be looking over at me at the same time.
